250-500cc Crank seals which way around

Ive put some fresh crank seals in the husky 360 95,but its still smoking heavily,ive been told its most likely that the seal are rubbbish,do you people know which way around the seals fit as i cannot find any images of them fitted on the web.Is the recessed surface facing in or out to the crank bearings

when looking from the shaft ends from the RHS and LHS you should always see the flat closed side of the seals. when installing surfaces should be very clean and smooth (no seal cut wear grooves. I always mic and verify the shaft OD and the case ID to verify the seals are correct sizes. use lots of lube when installing and use a good tool to install them without banging on them too much

Thanks for this info Robert,i do know now that the non clutch side seal is now the wrong way around
