yes, i know, hard to believe, but i have a question. gotta D803 and a Bt UHD tube as a stocking stuffer fre "trigger" (125) and the inside has directional ribs. but i dont see an arrow on the sidewall anywhere. which way is "front" etc? im anxious to try it where i normally ride. solid rocks and dust and knobs just spin if ya get stuck and im tired of it and they last maybe 3 rides so...well see. if this aint an improvement its on to motoz. any input from you trials guys? jake? cupcake? etc ???? thanks guys. happy xmas! -kevin.
I tore one open at 200 miles and will probably never mount one again. Jakes seems to make them last forever even half on the rim and half off (tubliss) When i was mounting it I kept saying to myself it was WAY to light weight and would never last so maybe it was a self fulfilling prophecy.
you dont count. yer "the destroyer of many bikes in one day almost" so...i aint too worried if it dont last under yer care and custody. and if i do a you and its gone.....yer getting a call for a motoz. but i would like to know which way the ribs inside are supposed to point. really bizarre looking thing. hope the tube lasts more than 10 mins. looks like a shredder in there. meeeeep!
I usually mount them with the arrow on the dunlop logo facing the direction of travel. That said I have ran them both directions with no problems. Later,
good god. i just looked at it closey. the ribs on one side point in the opposite direction of the other. . buwahahahahaha! im an idiot!!! had i taken it ALL the way out of the bag...ida noticed this. this is classic. LMFAO. thanks jake and kel.
man this thing is sticky. took it over to my bosses desk, ran it over the top, little knob marks everywhere....wonder if he'll figure it out. hehehehehe, braap!
i run em inside out. ima selfish bastid. went on ok. WAY taller than i expected. bike is way too tall now. hope it dont shake its head. well see. hucked it off a ledge by the park. bottomed it out and it didnt hit the box so im good there. good grief this thing hooks on wet concrete. easy fix if i dont like it, albeit a little expensive of a lesson but, what's life w/o trying something new.
Try a Pirelli MT43, they last unlike "real" trials tires. Most guys running trials tires for trail work use the Pirelli, the others are just too soft and will spin knobs off quickly.
nice tip. thanks. kinda of a trials tire newb here so....man these things are TALL. will def go back to a knob if it upsets the apple cart too much. really cant touch the ground now.
what kind of pressure are you running? most of us idaho-ans run 8-9 psi, so it squishes down pretty good. I usually get 3000+ miles out of an 803, but the last one got a deep pinch cut in the sidewall after only 1000 or so. dunlop and michelins are the most popular ones here. A few of the guys on 4-strokes run the pirellis, but we don't do alot of pavement here.
My last trials tire was an 803, super sticky... then replaced that with a Michelin, not quite as sticky. I talked to some pretty good trials riders, they flip the tires around when worn. I looked at a stack of their 'used' tires too, that particular person runs tires till all knobs are gone, and still uses it beyond that.
just spooned it on last night so i aint played with the pressures yet. w/ 10psi it's pretty squishy. im just hoping it dont turn the bike into a tank slapper. man is it TALL.
Mount UR bike using UR best method, close your eyes, imagine UR a big, big man, then let out the clutch slowing, remembering to open UR eyes ... continue riding as a big big man ... I hope to try one of these trials tires in the near future .... If the terrain here is dry, I think it will be perfect here for the rocks and hard packed soil ...
+1 on the Pirelli MT 43 Trust me, the sidewall on it is not flimsy an standing next to a knobby there is next to zero difference in height. It does give the illusion of being taller because the big air gaps between the knobs deceive you. I'm running mine @ 7psi with the tubliss system
2wlr! ouch. torque + soft tire = mine's on a 125. tire is a LOT taller than what normally runs on there, filled the gap to the flap w/ 1/2" to spare. saddle came up 1.25". pulled it off last night and spooned on a mudder for the slop/snow tomorrow. ill mount the 803 back on once it dries up. traction should be good with that 275 pound UHD tube and sticky tire. actually wondering of the motor will turn it, good greif its a heavy combo. pretty thankful the back brake on this 125 is bombproof. thanks for the tips and pointers gang. next year ill ask santa fer a mich or pirelli if this one goes to shreds. learned a lot about these tires so far thanks to ya'll. see? i dont know everything! mrreeeeeep!
