To the Dakar fans, my money is on Toby Price because he grew up 15 minutes away, and because he is a relatively unknown but excellent enduro and rally rider. Already having electrical and fueling issues on the KTM factory bike unfortunately though. We only recently reconnected Foxtel (cable TV) and Eurosport to find there is stuff all/NO coverage of the Rally. Only 40 minute wrap ups on SBS free to air leaving 15 minutes at best for the bikes. Cant believe Desperes is now in a car! And managing not to crash. Five (5?) time winner setting this years course. First timed stage washed out but still had to do the normal travel through the storms. Also I hope all stay safe.
Yes his stocks have certainly gotten a boost. Wonder what winning dakar is worth both contract/bonus wise with ktm n endorsement wise?
I dont know, i would guess not half bad. Dont forget sponsorship, he didnt get caught on camera after a race interview not drinking from a RedBull can, unlikely there was redbull in it! I dont mind, hes a champion now. I would also be surprised if KTM Factory let him race in the Australian desert races or any of the other Enduros now. Maybe they'll just keep him rallying now?
Coverage of the race here is so bad, especially considering people like me would pay to watch it. The wrap ups on SBS are great but only 10 minutes per day for the bikes doesnt tell the whole story when you consider the number of competitors and the kilometers raced and travelled.
A shame it is! It's an amazing feat and it hardly gets coverage on TV. Toby is a true legend the way he goes about things and the recovery he made from a bad crash a few years ago.
For sure. And hes not done yet, its funny looking at his bike last year compared to this year, so many sponsors in 2016. All of that stuff can get in the way of racing but the funding allows him to get support so he can concentrate on riding.
