Rode the bike through 36 miles of single/double/logging trail yesterday on a sponsored fun run. Nothing crazy, no big crashes (I did fall over once while BSing on a berm[IMG]). Brought it home, took it to the car wash to knock the big chunks of crud off, changed the oil and filter, tweaked the JD tuner a little and put 'er away for the night.

Upon entering the garage this morning I was greeted with a healthy whiff of fresh gasoline and a puddle on the floor. "Son of a B...." This is the 2nd 2.9g IMS for me so far on this bike. It's leaking from the front insert for the shroud. Pictures will show it better than I can describe it.

I can confidently say that the stock Acerbis tank is much better built because it is thicker (that's why it's heavier). I just don't like to carry fuel in my back pack if at all possible. After this latest leak I'm seriously tempted to just carry gas from now on. Very disappointing.

I know Just Gas Tanks will get this replaced for me for $0.00 through IMS. Am tired of swapping the fuel pump back and forth. Yes, I'm bitching a little. Wish there was another alternative; Clark where the hell did you go?

All this is scaring me a little, since both my WR150 and CR 150 both have IMS tanks on them. Gosh it is sad I could drive 5 hours to race only to DNF because of a junk tank! Wow! Is it just certain tanks?? Are the replacments any better? Whats up???? The real deal again goes back to Husky. And american spec bike designed for enduros should come with a minimum of a 3 gallon tank. And real tires to. I think the new Gassers have a tiny tank to. Last year with the stock tank I was carrying gas in a Gatorade bottle duct taped to my front fender with the stock tank!! This may still be the way to go huh??

Too bad on that tank ... I see your point on swapping tanks over and over and carrying extra fuel in your pack ... Very disappointing to say the least ...

My 3rd tank for the 510 was bullet proof. Maybe I need a 3rd one for this bike too! IMS has replaced all my bad ones for free, in their defense. Great customer service! The bike also handles a lot better with the stock tank but I'm willing to sacrifice that part for a little more fuel capacity. I used 1.3 gal for my 36 mile ride yesterday = 28ish MPG. Lots of slow stuff at higher rpm.

    Ray,

Wish I could take a vacation to your locale and just enjoy the tropical (and cheap) riding experience. Wishful thinking, I know.

Its always good to have customer service in these cases .... And fuel capacity is critical on the far away places the states have to offer for riding ...

PS --- Its petty hot here now but If on the bike with the wind blowing, its perfect riding ;0 ) and remember to park in the shade when stopped if possible...

Hey ioneater, as you are aware from another post I started, I am also on my third IMS tank. I feel your pain and I also hate swapping out my fuel pump. Like you said, great customer support, but it would be nice if I did not have to call at all. Just Gas Tanks told me they would keep swapping tanks as long as it takes or they will credit me if I choose to buy a different tank. Not a lot of choices other then the monster 5 gal tank. Sorry to here about your tank leak, at least you were able to ride your bike with the tank. My second tank never made it out of the garage.

My 125 IMS tank started leaking there also before the race at stradleline, when I got home I cleaned it up and put some seal all on the threads. It has not been an issue since.

I'm afraid to talk bad about my third IMS tank in front of it. I might hurt it's feelings and it'll start to cry...fuel.

I think IMS has had to change their formulas etc because of the environmental rules. Pretty sure I heard that from somewhere. I'll ask George about it next time I see him. Maybe they are a little weaker inherently because of constraints on process. If they made these in Mexico, they could probably do it pretty much how they wanted. Clark Foam finally closed the doors because of regulation stuff. He was one angry dude in the end didn't even sell the company....just shut it down. He was fighting several different alphabet agencies, EPA, OC Fire Authority, AQMD, OSHA and probably CARB.

some good points and i remember black monday. ran down to my shaper and scooped a few clark's off the rack and ordered a custom 9'1 twin stringer single fin- last one!

ive also seen some very recent IMS stuff that's perfect and fits uber-well. i think mines just a dud. i complain but understand how tricky blowing these molds must be. mine dont leak, it just dont fit worth a spit. i think they should have caught it in QC though.

Yeah mine didn't fit well either. It hangs off to the left and the bolt holes were too close together

Just a bit of info.Clarke has been here at the shop 3 times in the last 2 weeks fitting tanks and measuring to finish up the CR/Wr125/150/tc/txc/te/te310 tanks,we loaned them a Tc250 for a few days now to size it all up.Also been doing alot of sizeing up and drawing for fitting more gas on the 449/511 series bikes.its great for them we are about 40 minutes from them. The small bike tanks shouldnt be too far away now and they are leaving room for a steering damper post up front.billf

Any word on expected capacity of the WR125 tanks?
  19. Too bad Clarke is late to the party...again! Clarke makes great tanks but they dont make them soom enough, maybe for the 449/511 guys. My IMS is leaking now also. Safari here I come.

Speaking of IMS my tank is alive to!! My lord I had to crunch the seat up almost 1/2 and inch to get it on the other day and to make matters worse I noticed the 2 tabs on the subframe thathold the seat, now part of the tank was rubbing on 1 of the on 1 side and I had to put a spacer to hold the tank up so it won't rub a whole in it. Sorry my opinion JUNK! May NOT buy another IMS tank again. Husky when will you give us a 3 gallon tank like you used to???????????????????? As much as I hate KTM, I think the tank is bigger and clear like I prefer.
