So....as I was putting my chain together, I heard a "ping" and the master link clip was no where to be found. :excuseme: So I'm needing just a clip. Didn't know if this was something you had available or where I can get a small pkg of these clips. Also I'm wanting to get an axtra master link. Is it a good idea to keep master link and chain same same as far as brand or does any old 520 master link work fine?

Some of the hard core riders I know pull thier chain after every two or even every race. If you have to replace the clip each time, then your going through ump teen (exagerated) clips through a season/year. Or do you replace the entire master link? Which doesn't make sence to me why you would do that. So... clips, where to get them?

I've never heard of buying just a clip. Don't think you'll find that anywhere.
It's not a bad idea to keep a couple of spare masters (complete) around.
I even carry one in my tool belt.
I have mixed master and chain brand for a long time...although it is not recommended. Never had a chain break either. But have thrown a chain while going through some very thick brush.
Another little trick I've been doing forever is this.

I never thought of doing that.

My worry about fitting "any old clip" to a link is that one that doesn't belong to that particular make and model of chain might want to jump off. I guess it's best to use a masterlink from the same brand as the chain too.

Modern links with the press-fit sideplate make splitting a chain a bit of a pita (especially as at least one o-ring seems to go walkabout too). I usually don't bother - I take it as a reminder to pull the swingarm + linkage and give the bearings a grease. I clean my chain in situ, but racers who'll be using non o-ring chains will need to give ther chains more maintenance, which is probably why they may split and remove them so often.

I always knew there was an advantage to being old and slow.
