I have a 08 510 smr. The problem is the tachometer doesn't work, and the numbers for the mileage, hours, etc are messed up. Im not sure what is causing it. Ive also tried to figure out the total km and miles but they dont seem to match up. Ill post pictures below. Will I need a new dash?

Just wanted to post this cuz why not, Ive tried to figure out the mileage by myself, might help you guys whoever wants to take a crack at it, but I have to get it as close as possible to the actual mileage (have an appointment to register it on the 19th and i need exact mileage lol) BTW the person who I bought it from had 8750 miles in 2017 when he registered, but he said he didnt ride it that much.

Yes, you will need a different gauge. The display is deteriorating. Probably will need something like a Trailtech.

If I do get a trailtech, can I set the mileage to what it was previously or would I have to add whatever miles I rack up on the trailtech to the current gauge? Also, would you recommend buying a used or new oem gauge or go for aftermarket brands like trailtech?

If you can still get a new one, that would be great. getting a used one of the same vintage will beg the same problem to arise. I don't really know any other brands besides Trailtech and that is what I use on all my trail bikes. I just use their most basic model, the Endurance II, although you would probably want a Voyager for your bike. And to the question of being able to change mileage on a new meter. No, because people would do dishonest things with them.

I would open the unit up and gently press on the lcd display at the connectors.
Most dash units use a conductive silicone strip to connect the main PCB to the glass of the LCD. Disassembly and cleaning can help but applying gentle pressure may fix the poor connections so you can read the numbers correctly.

Here's a sample so you can see what I'm talking about: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/YS-Type-LCD-To-PCB-Connection_60605978421.html

    A bunch of others.
The new SWM models have what looks to be the exact same dash. Probably going to be a few hundred dollars, though.
