Updating and refreshing my new acquisition and ordered some plastic from DCplastics. Was told but others it was "good" but required some work to get on. Was reasonably inexpensive for the whole kit so i got it.

The kit is what i would call about 70% close to the original stuff. Off feel tot he kind of plastic it is, will be interesting to see if it holds up.

Airbox cover - Did not use as mine was in good shape and already installthe stickers on it.

Right side plate - Did not use because it does not have the back of tha air box lip. This would leave the filter open to rear tire roost. Not sure what they expect you to do there. Cleaned the old one up and put the sticker on it.

Rear fender - A little different than the original but close. Best fitting part in the kit. Need align and drill your own holes but that was simple. Good part.

Left side panel - Lots of cutting and zip tying to get on. Looks OK. Better than nothing but the fit is pretty bad. Nothing lined up. Need to drill holes for the rubber bumpers, EZ.

Overall the kit was cheap and I knew would take some work to get on. The right side panel sucked that even if I moded it to fit would functionally not be right and therefor unusable. Not impressed witht he kit but also not upset. It's about what I figured it would be minus the unusable side panel. if your willing to mod quite a bit to make it work the end result is good. I appreciate a company trying to help us out, wish the fit was better. Had this kit been expensive i would be pissed, for what it costs it is what it is, good kit if you are handy with mods.

Right panel missing the rear of the air box lip rendering it unusable.

Two zip ties and a hack saw to make the left one fit.

    Rear fender fits very well

hope this helps any of you thinking about swapping plastic out.

next project WR400 item, install blue USD forks, wheel and disk brake off a KX250.

Looks like simple vacuum molded pieces from flat plastic plate stock, no?
I wonder if Maier Mfg would consider the Husky vintage market??
That "new" machine is great looking.

just read their history, yes vacuum molded Iques answered.

K could you cut the airbox section from the oem stuff and somehow overlay onto the new stuff, rivets, epoxy, plastic weld etc?? Would that be practical? logical?

the old one cleaned up well and is 90% covered in sticker so I'm good.

the only reason i am going through all this effort is the amazing motor and surprising handling. If I get the forks and front brake working like semi modern stuff (which the KX front end should do) I'll be stoked and put some good miles on this old beast. Right now the floppy and non-adjustable forks and Flintstones brake make it not so fun / safe at speed. The rest of the bike is more than willing so I'm going to upgrade the front end.

good call, from minimal experience. I could never get those type Husky forks anywhere near the feel Showa/KYB stuff from the same era, the rear end suspension and chassis were fine and motor good stuff. It was always a handicap for me with the front end. I was always wanting to do an XR600 or MXer front end swap but never did.
This is a great candidate for a front end mod.

Oh yea I like those FIM open class yellow number plates on the old color Huskys, they just look "right" with the machine.

Found an entire front end off a KX250, revalved and resprung for a 200 pound off roader with wheel and brakes complete shipped to my door for $125. How could i pass on that And the blue might look cool...

    Kelly,
Nice looking project build. Plastics came out really nice. Really helps the look of your scoot.

Post up "in detail" the fork conversion. I'm extremely interested and watching (as others are I'm sure).

Yeah, that should be fun to see the front end conversion, forsure.

Also great to hear the first hand experience in detail about the DC plastics. I thought they fit a bit better than this. Real good info.

    Nice bike!
