• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I would start with checking the battery terminals for a loose cable. Are you pulling in the clutch as well ?

kill switch on? Kickstand down (although I'm not sure it has a kickstand switch)?

Yep, check all connectors around the clutch perch. It is turning over, but is it getting spark? Before you spend hours, pull the plug and make sure spark is getting through, then look at fuel flow. Does pump prime with key on? Is the plug cap on properly? Check all of the things you think could not be wrong. Fuses, wires, grounds, sensors etc. It is somethign simple.

I had this happen with my 2010 TXC 250, it would crank but not start. On my bike it turned out to be the Temp. Sensor. It is a brass plug with two wires connecting to it on the right hand back side of the motor. It is kind of close to the kick starter and has a two wire terminal into this brass plug into the motor. Locate that and try un-hooking the wires and see if it starts. You can also test it in Ibeat by seeing if it is showing correct temperature, sometimes it will show full hot on ibeat even though the motor is cold. Could be the opposite way. It is a very easy fix and the parts is like $12.00, I bought two just to have 1 on hand. Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem on my KTM and it turned out that the fuse box itself had gone bad.

raisrx251...will the bike run without the temp sensor I take it? I was wondering what the best way to troubleshoot that would be other than just buying the new part and swapping. I have the hot starting problem, and am thinking this might be the culprit.

I had a temp sensor issue and the same problem too. Look there.

This temp sensor thing is gonna be a bear................I tell ya, I really like my 310, but if I am going to the deep bush or somewhere where I really need reliability and simplicity, for now, it's my carb'd 525 I would take and leave the 310 home, as much as I hate to say it.

I kind of felt the same way at first, bike was fairly new. Ever since I put the new one in I have not had a bit of trouble with it. The other thing to remember is when it goes bad it makes the computer think the bike is too hot (at least with mine). If you un-hook the wires the bike will run so as long as you remember this, you could always get out of the bush. I have even plugged the wires back in once running and the bike seemed to run O.K.

Cool, thanks for the info. I am still on the fence about FI in dirt bikes. Yes I love mine, it runs awesoime and the mapping/fueling is very linear. I just worry about electrical way more now as there are more places a chaffed wire can stop you and I understand carb's and just love simplicity on the trail...........
