I took my Terra to the dealership yesterday for its first service. I am nothing but disappointed. When I purchased the bike I was told by the salesman that my bike was MOSSED. He also said that they have the MOSS tool set up and ready for future service. Yesterday when I talk to a HONEST service tech he tells me that they could not figure out the MOSS tool and it has been has not been used since they received it. He said that they will be giving the MOSS tool to the local KTM dealership and have not bothered to revisit figuring it out. This is not the only issue with this dealership I have had. They also applied me for a heaving equipment loan instead of a motorcycle loan but that is another story. I left my Terra with the service tech and was assured he would try to get the MOSS tool working and use it on my bike. We shall see what they do.
The ride from Reno to Salem Oregon is nice this time of year....BMP knows how to use their MOSS...and you can visit Crater Lake on the way.
This sounds very tempting. I have family up in Portland and that would be a sweet ride. I love the Terra. I am fed up with my dealer. Bitter sweet it is. The next closest dealership is about 100 miles away. The lesson learned here is to talk to the service department first before buying a new bike.
You need to think slightly outside of the box... This is when you should have mentioned the PNW fall gathering in Bend
Like this? ...or if you prefer the always excellent early Fall weather and the camaraderie of the Cafe Husky bunch... http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/nw-gathering-2013-oct-10-13-tent-china-hat.35071/
I just got off the phone with the owner. No dealer support because they are shedding the Husky line. I hope my local KTM dealership takes the reigns.
I wish I had a way to take someplace like that over..... being the dealer of one of the worlds best off-road motorcycle lines, in Reno NV. What could be better than that?
A very happy Bill's Motorcycles Plus customer, here! Note that I live in Oakland, CA. He MOSS'd my Terra up and installed a booster plug and I couldn't be happier. Completely different machine now! Love it Just do it, Scutler. You will not regret it...
Don't rule out Big D's in Woodland Park, Scutler. Great guys, great shop, have and know how to use the moss. Don't forget great riding!
Thanks for the feedback guys. It would be cool to make a big trip to Oregon. The $190 first service was given to me for free after I talked to the owner. He advised that I find somewhere with the MOSS tool to service the bike in the future. Sacramento has the closest dealerships which is about 100 miles away. I will be calling those dealerships before my next service to see if they can help me. If Sac doesn't work out then I will check the SF bay area and if that doesn't work out then out to Oregon .
I do not think anyone in the bay area has a MOSS. I have heard of people that were happy with the dealer south of Sacramento (Modesto?) who reportedly has a MOSS.
Modesto? Well I am in Livermore, CA about once a month and Medesto is on the way. Thanks, I'll have to check that out.

I really do feel for you guys who talk about riding 100 miles or more to a dealer. Just about my whole riding career when I've bought bikes, the proximity to, and the ease of getting to-from a dealership has always been a consideration. As it happens, in the past 20 years I've never lived so close to a dealership as I do now, and he is a Husqvarna dealer. Being a 10 minute ride or a 15 minute bus ride to drop the bike off/pick it up for service spoils me.
I thought perhaps you were talking about 'my' dealer ;-) Heck, mine sent his Moss tool back! I basically got the same story and still no joy after talking with Husky Corporate, BMW and KTM. I was told that until further notice - my options were to take the bike 400-500 miles away and have it 'mossed' (BTW - Who pays for gas and overnight accommodations?) or have my dealer remove the ECM, speedo unit, key, etc. and send it to Husky Corporate in California where they will 'Moss' it and then send it back where the dealer will re-install everything. Now that makes sense...not! At 3K and below, my Terra is running extremely erratic and trying to get away from a stop light in traffic without killing it is an 'iffy' thing - then there is the overheating problem... I love this bike, have invested in racks, top and side panniers, bash plate etc and all I need now is for it to run and not overheat. Still in the shop...
Well let us know what happens. This situation with lack of support from dealerships is enough to make you want to pull your hair out. I am trying not to be a pessimist and hope that KTM will support our bikes. Good luck Leo
