Took a 630SM that i wanted to buy for a ride today 400km on the clock --[IMG]

What a total let down --i know the bike is still corked up and all --but hell my 610 TE stock when new was faster and more responsive than this one --The rest of the bike is spot on --pity that the motor is so underpowered --i don't even think all the money one can throw at it will get it to go like it shoul. Actually i think Huky missed it and this bike is easily 20% under the power of the 610. So now i am looking at a 610SM second hand or maybe buy the last one in the country that will not cost a fortune to --maybe --or maybe not get it to run.

Just a great pity that we do not have these bikes uncorked available to us to test ride before we spend all this money on them to get them to run.

Just my opinion --Pity though the rest of the bike works well for me ---

The exact same opinion i had when i ride both TE and SM630 the same day...Way slower than my TE 610...They look better though, but if you have the look you should have the power as well...

    SPOT ON!

Exactly what I've painfully figured out. It's a nice bike, it rides really nice and has a lot of amenities the 610 doesn't. But after removing 25 pounds of weight and spending a small fortue on performance parts the 630 still only makes what an OEM 610 makes... Husky really Ef'd the pooch on this one IMOP...

Glad you were able to ride one and not go down the same road I have.

I came to my TE630 from a 160 hp sportbike. The only power modification I have made to my 630 is the PU kit. I have no complaints.

I'm glad I sprung for the TE instead of the DRZ400.

Thank's i am glad to hear that i am not the only one that has picked this up --thought i made a big mistake by buying another 610TE in the crate and just keep it ther till i need it --was very glad i could get to ride one instead of pumping a lot of money into it. Think i made the right choice by buying a spare 610TE

It appears only the USA models get the air box labrinth/restrictor, so that isn't an issue in SA. You are saying that a non USA model is not capable of more power then a 610. I have not ridden any 610's, but I just cant buy that. Mine was so lean in stock form it was crazy. Putting on the p/u cap and plug the bike goes like mad! The 630's have the proven twin cam top end. That has got to make for more of a rev head then the original single cam motor. You really have to ride one that has been powered up, (only about $50 in parts in the USA) or maybe one that has been plugged in to iBeat and richened up, or one with comparable gearing. Remember the 610's come with 15/45 gearing while the 630 SMR comes geared to the moon with 15/38. Someone on here (maybe SMJ) was saying he was happier when he put the 630 TE gearing, 15/42, on his 630 SMR. I would not base your judgment on a lean running motor that is geared to the moon. You will be shooting your self in the foot, like the saying goes. Let us know when you ride a differen't 630 that has been set up correctly. [IMG]

The fastest stock single cam husky I ever rode was my 02 TE570, That bike would blow the side panels off my 06 TE610. Seems they keep making them slower and slower [IMG]

    This was a FAST bike...

I live in the US, Oregon specifically and have ridden both the SM630 and SM610 (both with a full ti leo vince and P/U kit) and there is a very very dramatic difference. True, my airbox is all jacked up at the moment and super restrictive but even without an airbox at all I seriously do not believe its going to instantly make 8 more HP. And even if it did that would only put it equal to a SM610. In order for it to hit the acclaimed 20% more power removing my airbox is going to have to produce at least 15HP... Yeah... I doubt that very much...

So did the bike you rode have the air box baffle in? I bet if you take it out, tune it iBeat and let it break in it will make a LOT more HP. Then replace the exhaust and get 10 more HP. Many street legal huskys are VERY restricted. The 2011 TE310 for example comes feared so tall it will not pull 1st or 6th and will not even start and run in stock form. EPA regs. Uncork it and change the gearing and it rips.

Believe it. Take that baffle out, richen up the EFI and replace the exhaust if you want and i bet there is near 20HP there. read my post above, the TE310 makes about 10HP stock if you can get it to start. It's the EPA.

notice something about all the 570/610 race bikes and the air box?

Engines are an air pump. The amount of air it can process has EVERYTHING to do with the power output. Your bike can swallow a gallon and you are giving it an ounce.

Read my review. I bought it with the power up kit installed then geared it to 15/43 rode it for 1100 miles then did a full Ti Leo Vince system and ibeat and I only got 1HP. That was a $1000 HP...... Its true my airbox is restricted with the funky 630 labyrinth. I hope I'm wrong I really really do but I just dont see how pulling the airbox labyrinth out and new ibeat is going to 8 to 15 more horsepower.

NICE! I like that and is exactly what I was wanting to do to my 630 as soon as I can get the airbox apart.

seriously man, you can't even talk about how much power it makes until you remove that baffle. It will make all the difference in the world. I can't believe you did all that work and still run the baffle.

    Hehe, I can :)
As soon as I can I'm going to take it in and pull the whole airbox off and do a dyno run.

Taking the air box clear off is not good ether and will be way lean. Remove the air box baffle and run it again.

thats looks like about what i would expect to see with a deregulated 630. 55-60 HP

I feel a bit sorry for Master_E. If his dealer or the Husky literature had told him that there was a pea sized hole that the engine is trying to breath through then I guess he might have thought to take it out. Can't wait to see some pics of what's in that box. I bought my 510 from new and Huskysport had taken the air baffle out and removed the throttle stop. All the power up mods were documented too.

PS this is in the UK, same as, totally restricted out of the box.

That right there is your problem. It is like riding an old carbed bike with the choke on. If that was my 630 I'd have that airway opened up immediately, get my ass on the seat, line up with any 610 and begin to try and quit laughing. You won't need the dyno to prove you can't quit smiling.
