Have been doing a little riding on the 2012 TXC250, Andy has moved on to a KTM 250XC running the 250A class. June 7th. ECEA Dogtown hare scramble race near Romney W Va. Weather looked good; trail was promised to be ‘Epic’! Us old folks and ‘C’ people run a 1- 1/2 hour 10am race and the rest go off for 2 hours at 1:00. About a 3 hour trip with a 5am leave time, not too bad. At a place called Boyer Farm that gets donated to the Green Marble Enduro Club of the ECEA to hold their race. Great area for pitting on top of a ridge, had a couple of miles mowed for fresh grass track, some muddy single track and some great open ripper trails through the hardwood forest…quite the terrain change in an 8 mile loop. Started 3rd row back with 11 riders in the B Super Seniors 55+. Damn that sounds weird; that’s my class?? Where did the time go? Off the line and into the woods 4th with a little freight train going that I have not been involved with since ’07; felt pretty good.... The suspension was last set up by Drew Smith/WER for Andy and GNCC.And let’s just say that I made my time up on the grass track and in the hardwoods, had an absolute blast pushing the edge of my envelope while feeling very comfortable at speed. They called it a 4 lap race early and knowing the gas mileage there would be no pit stops. Came through first lap in 2nd place and down by 18 seconds. Somewhere along the way whoever was in front of me had a DNF. So I showed up in 1st the next three laps and pushed my lead out to over 2 minutes at the end. Pretty good feeling and the bike was a blast to ride and rip… 1st in class and 23 Overall out of 176 racers… Link to race results… http://www.moto-tally.com/ECEA/ECEA/Results.aspx Drone view? of pits, start area and some grass track. New piece of equipment that's really nice...
Good looking bike, good looking terrain, and good looking results ... You got it all! -- 55+ Age class? 57 here so that's me also ...Not sure what is super about it though other than we are still here ... - How's that KLIM helmet? Do they make one of the feather-lite weighting helmets?
Ray_Ray, you always seem to provide the positive outlook on things...yes still super to be around but I refuse to go quietly!! The helmet is the best I've had. If you read up on the F4 it supposedly the most vented around, which would be good for you... And weighs in at a mere 3lbs, 9ozs. The ridges on top channel air right to the top of the head, kind of like air conditioning. For cold weather riding they include a skull cap sort of thing you put inside. I tried all kinds of helmets and the guy at my shop finally said try this on. It was a medium, but they run larger than normal. Great fit, looks good, runs cool, but after all that; major selling point was I could actually get my glasses, remember the 55+ thing... on after I put the helmet on.
I get passed by 50+ guys all the time. The desert class is a little more manly as they are called Magnum. I ride with ajaxauto and while he may be 58, he's a national plate holder and takes me to school regularly. Great effort and congrats on the win.
