i got the 30th anniversary box set a cpl weeks ago, love that movie lol alot of stuff cool stuff on the other two dvds too but anyway what i wanted to ask about is malcom was saying that they had a 8 speed husky tranny on the old bikes that would hit around 110mph any of yall manage to experiance one of those? sounds intense to say the least!
no info on the 8 speed, think he said it might have been on their cross country bikes??? cmon wheres all the old dudes at?!?!? hahahaha
This is more of a general bike thread, as opposed to an off topic thread.. probably a better fit in the Main forum where the other general bike threads are. I'll move it and perhaps it will get more attention. Diner -> Main I believe that there were several bikes way back when that had a dual range gearbox..
There were some 4 speed transmission bikes that had a dual primary drive that was lever activated. Those where called 8 speeds. Basically just a hi / lo range primary drive. If I remember right, you had to be stopped to change primary selection.

wow there are some cool bikes on there, ill definately have to show my dad that site, thanks!! man i was under the impression that the 8 speed was a straight 8 not the 2x4 that must have been some really tall gears to hit over 100mph on those bikes!! got to respect those ol boys for riding them as hard as they did.
My mom had a Honda CT90 for a short period of time that had a hi/lo transfer case. So, technically it had 8 gears. Or was it 6? Either way, she bought it against my recommendations. Tried riding it without any riding knowledge whatsoever, and just about killed herself on her second ride. She drifted into a median and tried to stop her and 200 lbs of scooter going 30 mph with her left leg, completely destroying her left knee. That's another story, though.
Yeah, it was pretty miserable for everyone. She was wheelchair bound for months. Every ligament in her left knee was torn. She has also had very bad arthritis and ligament weakness problems in her right knee her whole life. So, her only good knee was destroyed. I was upset and felt bad for her at the same time. She did everything I told her NOT to do. She did not take the MSF course. She did not wear a helmet. She did not buy an easy to ride, reliable bike. The lady can barely drive. I won't even ride in the car with her, it's scary. I don't scare easily. She had no business on a motorcycle and I was hoping the MSF course would show her that, or at least teach her enough that she wasn't going to kill herself. Now her left knee is stronger than her right. She's going in for knee replacement on the right knee in early June.
