sms 630_newbie posted this on Indys profile. Member Indy has good pics on his posting of his leaking shift shaft seal. My 2011 630 is the same.
INDY nice Pics of your leak. did that new seal the dealer put in fix your problem? My SMS 630 leaks at the shift shaft seal too .................started leaking in truck on way home. ( sad) looks like the shaft is a bit too wiggly /sloppy than most new bikes ,looks like it may keep being a nuisance problem.
Any more Leakers out there? And Do you guy's know if the new seals are better?
Dealer had to know bike was a pint low on oil. (prob leaked on showroom floor)
Gateway sold it to me with leak . i feel they should have just fixed it and turned in warranty claim after sale. Closest dealer to me is Halls 150 miles frome Quad Cities il. Kinda Bummed.

Hey this is a Question for Indy....does the shaft seem to wiggle around a bit. Grab your shifter and move it up down /front to back and in and out.
( if you get a chance ) Tell me .. is it a bit loose . Could be the normal fit from the factory . My bike seems to feel like it really shouldn't move around as much at it does, i was thinking maybe that's why mine leaks . Gateway sent me a seal guess i will get it swapped out and see if that remedies my leak. Also Local bike shops here in town dont have Castrol Power 1 synthetic 10w50 like the manual suggests . I got Castrol 10W50 Power RS Racing 4T .............should be fine right?

My shifter shaft seal leaked too. I replaced the seal myself and it stopped. The one I removed looked like it wasn't seated very well...

Seated ? like not pressed in all the way or sitting a little crooked ?

When you installed the new seal ...does it "bottom out so to speak " when you tap it into the case ?
..........in other words you couldn't really push it in too far? But , you could distort it if you smacked it in too hard and "seated" it too much .?

It bottoms out. When it is fully seated it will be about 1mm below the recess that it sits in. I found that the factory didn't have it fully seated.

Changed the shift shaft seal today and all looks good , no leaks so far. Looked like the factory seal was installed with too small of an O.D. tool . The seal looked deformed by a poor installation at the "Factory" . I Imagine there are quite a few 630's TE and SMS with the shift shaft seal leaking. (Simple fix. they come out pretty easy. )

We Pulled and cleaned screens and changed oil and filter with 10-W-50 Full Synthetic Castrol RS 4T Racing oil.

Bike has "Power up kit" .Uncorked the air box by removing the Plastic Restrictor plate . Bike runs pretty good now !

we have sold 18 sm/te 630s.1 of them leaked out of the shift shaft seal .leak was noticed after first ride.did not leak on showroom floor at all.1 out of 18 is not too bad,but is is not a perfect record.it is a easy fix for any one with some mechanical aptitude.worse things will happen in life for sure.dan

Been My Only Complaint So Far. Maybe Only a few got a poor installation job when new. Luck of the draw i suppose.

    .. like ingrown toenails!

Mine doesn´t leak. But the dimply metal of the case is difficult to keep clean ... and the round oil level inspection glass is difficult to see (there must be a few more things ...?)

9000 miles and none of those seals have leaked on mine. I did deal with a leaky oil pump cover seal and am on my second clutch master cylinder.

Kinda related but kinda not............How high a coolant level should be on these bikes? I filled it above the MIN bar and with the sloshing around, coolant comes out thru the drain hole in the coolant cap. I can't figure out if I just have a bad cap or I'm overfilling the coolant tank/bottle?! :excuseme:

I just keep a little in my reservoir at all times and don't worry too much about keeping it filled to the line. What you don't want is your radiator burping hot coolant into an empty reservoir. I have heard of reservoirs rupturing when that happens.

You still got those MOTOXOTICA Husky shirts ? how does a guy get one? Post a pic of one. Thanx
  18. sms 630_newbie Husqvarna

Yeah what is with the blue coolant anyway ? .....i read some of those blue Castrol coolants dont work well with Magnesium. 630 motors have any Magnesium in contact with coolant.?????
