Bought an advertised low hour (6-8) hour bike from Tri county. Was told repeatedly bike was in excellent shape by Dennis, salesman. I was in the market for a low hour bike for Vegas to Reno. I had already bought 2 bikes from TriCounty and both transactions went great. I figured with a repeat customer who had just bought a 13 TXC 310, a week earlier, they would be straight forward and honest. So I buy the 09 TXC 450, like new low hour bike for $3700 shipped to my door. Again, I bought bike on Dennis's word bike was like new. I receive bike and the first thing I notice is shape of bike, sure doesn't look like a 6-8 hour bike. Oh we'll I figured it just needed a good cleaning. I start taking body parts off and bike is coated with a layer of red clay. No biggie. Take tank off and there is blue RTV silicone all over top end!!! Why would a bIke with 6-8 hours have blue RTV silicone all over top end? My son with zero mechanical know how could have done a better job. Bike started and ran good when delivered. I called Dennis he next day to voice my concern. He says he had no idea about silicone and bike had been checked over by mechanic. Mechanic must have been blind. I tell Dennis I'm concerned that a bike with such low hours on it would need to be opened up. No response other than bike is good to go. At this point I take their word for it. Just spent $3700 on a bike and it needs to be torn down and prepped. The more I get into bike I realize there no way bike has 6-8 hour on it but at this point I have to get bike ready. I'm relying on Huskys reliable motor. Send suspension out, jet bike properly, install hi flow impellar kit, buy a bunch of bolt on parts, grease everything and torque bolts. Once bike is put back together I fire it up and run it for about 20 minutes up and down my street. Nothing hard just making sure everything's good to go. Bike is loaded up for 12 hour trip to Vegas. Bike is taken out for a shakedown Wednesday outside of Vegas. Bike lasts 15 miles before it shuts down. Bike will not restart. Figure out it has no compression. So much for a 6-8 hour bike. Lots of cash spent for travel, hotel, entry fees etc.... We did finish race. The team came thru and got a bike from Colorado ready in 1 day. Dennis the owner has decided to cut contact with me. He offered a few parts if I tore bike apart. He basically Said it was my fault for buying a 4 year old bike and expecting it to run. Insinuated that I should have torn motor apart before race to check everything. Really, How many of you guys tear your 6-8 hour motors apart for inspection ? If I would have seen bike in person, I would not have bought it. I have nothing to gain here. If bike would have been delivered as advertised and lasted more than 21 miles total, TriCounty would have ever heard back from me other than to buy another bike. I bought bike based on description by Paul's employee. He said it was a bad decision to buy a 4 year old bike. Really, I wasn't old that when I sent a check for it. I asked if I can send motor to them to repair on my dime. Never heard back. Guys stay away from Tri County!!!
Well you tried to deal with them and they cut you off. Normally I'd say something about them be a site sponsor but it seems you've done all you can at this point. I really hope some good comes out of this for you.
Here is last email I sent Paul (Owner) with zero response. Paul, I bought bike based on description from Dennis. When I'm told bike has low hours, 6-8 in this case and in excellent shape, like new, I feel I made a good decision. I made a sound decision based on the description of bike. I asked several times about hours and condition. I was not buying a bike with 100 hours on it and expecting it to look like new. Nor was I buying a used bike with 100 hours on it and expecting it to finish a 550 mile desert race. I bought a bike that was described as like new with 6-8 hours on it. I had previous dealings with you and thought I would be told truth about bike. If it was told to me that you guys had no idea of hours, I would not have bought it.....make this clear, I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT IT! I've been racing a long time and not once have I taken a new, or under 10 hour motor apart to inspect it before a big race. Your telling me I should take some responsibility for this. Are you expecting me to tear apart a motor with 8 hours on it and look for damage. Do you tell the people who buy new bikes from you to tear apart their motors after 8 hours on it to make sure it will go another 12. Motor on this bike was never touched. It still had stock exhaust and other than jetted correctly nothing was done to motor. Motor ran for 20 miles max!! Are you saying I should have rode it for a few hundred miles before race to make sure it would not break????? That's nonsense! I called Dennis after receiving bike and told him about blue RTV silicone all over motor and also bike was not in that great of shape. I've been riding for 20 years and have bought and sold countless bikes and have never been lied to. I now have a $3700 bike after shipping bike that is worth half that. If I received a bike that was as described and it lasted for more than 20 miles, we would have no problem here. You would have never heard from me again other than to buy another bike. I don't understand how you can place any blame on me? What did I do wrong other than take your companies employees word that bike was like new. What your saying is I should have not believed Dennis and not buy bike.....huh. I don't feel it's up to me to tear apart motor and spend time finding out what's wrong with it. Afterall it's only got 8 hours on it. I don't know what the resolution is here than to return bike to you and get a refund. I'm still losing my ass at that point. Again if bike had been delivered as described we would have no problem. Chris
Well, that sucks! Can you check the actual hours with iBeat? If you have correspondence from them indicating 6-8 hours, and that was significantly off, it would seem that you should have some legal recourse.
Ah. Of course, that makes sense. I forgot that it's a Mikuni FI tool, rather than a Husky tool. Could he get another dealer to check hours with the the HST ?
Wow a little pissed uh! Do not blame you a bit... I have same feeling for a local KTM shop here. The lies just for what a buck or two, come on, really. I gave this local shop many chances and got bent over more times then not. The problem for them is there two other KTM dealers with in 20 mi. so I do have options (thank God) The one that really sticks out is they had my new bike for a recall for over a month (for starting issue) that was a two hour fix, I was told. When I was told to come and get it , I bummed a ride 25 mi and got there and the bike was in parts. The tech wasn't there (at lunch) 5:00 pm friday. so I waited and when he got back he told they had taken parts off my new bike and used them another bike that was already gone. A bunch of 1 class BS. from the owner , I had to borrow a friends bike to get back home. There are a few other thing I could tell you about dealing with this place, but I am the one that tried to use them so that just makes me the dumb one........
Years ago Huskie shops were a destination point for our group of dozens of hard core enduro riders here in the North East, with more than a few Six Days, National MX riders as well as Champions, Dirt track National racers, Pro Ice Racers, and even a few GP Road racers. Woodstove, cigars, beer, and bullshit, or a ride out of the shop whether on or off road, or on the ice, and a trusted shop owner was the norm. Now these shops are boutiques for posers and is sickening. I miss the days when a Huskie shop was blast to visit and hang with real racers and the owner was trusted to do the right thing. I see no more Huskie shops in my future.
It sucks to be lied to by a salesman and then not to get taken care of by the owner....that's a real kick in the .....! Thanks for the heads up and good luck with the repairs.
We are really fortunate to have such great sponsors that are completely helpful. I've seen Bill, Motosportz, 7602, and of course Tinken chime in and help people out without anything to gain. There's always one bad apple but I really would t ever think that would happen here. There's definatley a reason everyone always praises BMP.
I know this is an old thread but I owed Tri County an update. Bike ended up seizing the top end. I tore it apart and was surprised to see that. Don't have any idea how it seized. Oil was full and fresh, jetting was spot on and Rads were full . Tri County did end up buying back bike from me. I was refunded cost of bike and and shipping back to them. I lost about $1100 on deal after suspension and original shipping to me. At least I got most of my money back.and appreciate Tri County working with me. I wanted to keep bike and use it as my desert bike but just didn't trust motor.
Good work. I'm glad you were able to close it off and get something sorted. Let it be a lesson to us all, unless you have complete faith in the salesperson (almost an oxymoron there) that we shouldn't buy sight unseen. You never know, someone might have googled tri country and it this thread found its way to them?
I sell used cars parts and used cars most of my cars are sold with a Salvage title. I ship cars all the time all over the country and sometimes out of the country. People buy from me just from looking at the pictures and my word that they will be happy. Today with the internet you can most times goggle a person and see if they are trust worthy. With the internet and all the sights I am on. All it would take is one unhappy person and I would have a lot of trouble. So part of your statement about a trusting salesman is a little off
i have a similar story from a different dealer, I purchased a new Husky last year, spent numerous phone tag calls trying to set up shipping, the dealer was going to haul it out in his truck to save me the 400 dollar shipping, well he said it would not fit in his truck and I had to go the other route, now the good part they sent me the wrong bike, long story longer the dealer loaded up my real bike and delivered it a week later but would not refund any part of my 400 dollar ship fee for the wrong bike, I still feel your pains
@fire1998 - I wish you would have kept your 449. I remember when you sold it, I had just started to make ground with the internal reliability. Today, we can make the 449 far more race-reliable than even a new Husaberg/Husqvarna.
I'm looking for a 449. I wish I could have my TXC 449 back also but at the time I still sold it for more than I bought it for. That's really hard nowadays. I've seen some clean used ones for $3500, just to far away. Still rocking the 13 TXC 310 and loving it!! I'll be racing it at Laughlin, Nv the 22nd!
