I know I've been told it's normal, even more so when you ride more dirt......BUT........how squeaky is your front brakes?? Mine squeal like a pig at the fair  even when I'm ginger with them?? Does everyone else's squeal?? Any thoughts??

Also, dumb question time.......how the hell do you activate the hazard flashers?? I know, I know, I should look in the manual but just tell me?!:D

AFAIK, all Huskies do that. Yet, when I'm out riding with friends, mine is the only bike (I have the only Husky) that thinks the hills are alive with the sound of music.

The bike has hazards? I've seen nothing in the manual about hazards.
I chamfered the leading edge of the brake pads to cut down on the squeal.

Mine just makes the metal on metal sound that sintered pads make! I hate it.

I think George @ Uptite has better pads.

Mine howled like a freight train. No amount of cleaning & greasing would fix it. Per Hall's Cycles recommendation, I put some EBC X pads on. Howl is gone.

Mine has 1600 miles on it so far and the pads have never squealed. Perhaps you need to put pad grease on 'em (behind the back plate where it contacts the piston)- don't know...just know that's best done w/ cars.

I have had some minor squealing but nothing to complain about. Does anyone else have the Rotor touching the caliper carrier like mine does? Under braking at slow speeds it makes a ticking sound. I have done the front axle/ fork alignment trick and it is still the same..

Like I said, no amount of cleaning & greasing (including putting automotive pad grease on the back side of the pads) cured my howl. Different pads did the trick.

    That doesn't look good!

    1400 miles, no noises.

However the rear brake fluid turns black, flushed mine out with new dot4 by recommendation from Johngil. His coolant was pretty black too.

No it doesn't.. It barely touches but ....I need to look a little closer and take the wheel off.. Maybe the wheel spacers were installed wrong when the dealer assembled?

Mine was like this so I put some small thin washers to space the caliper away from the disk .. try to move both the top and bottom of the caliper to keep it spaced equally ...

putting washers in sounds like a hack to me. Something's wrong if it doesn't mount right.

Well I must say.. I have owned alot of Hondas and I have never Tinkered so much on a new machine.. But I have come to terms with the Qausi Exotic nature of this beast.

Funny thing...my stock TE wheel squeeks. The SM wheel doesn't -- even with the exact same rotor installed on it.

About how many miles should we get out of pads/rotors?

Man, that'll be highly variable. It of course depends on the type of riding you do, riding style/how assertive you are with braking, brake pad type/material, temps, etc. Mine's a TE630 w/ 5600 miles on it now and I replaced the pads (F & R) at around 4600 miles. By the way neither of my sets have presented any squeal whatsoever.

Riding mud will take the pads down quick, especially the back. My fronts on the TE and SM are quiet and do not squeak. odd..

    Hey there,

I put Galfer Green pads on mine at 500 miles cause i couldn't deal with the metal on metal and relatively hard two finger pull effort....in fact, I have never liked sintered pads and have eventually replaced all the sintered pads on every bike i have had in the last couple decades with Galfer Green or Black pads, or EBCs if i cant get Galfers (street and dirt). I just prefer organic, semi-metalic, or the newer Kevlars, for initial bite and extremely low rotor wear. Since i like to wash my bikes monthly (or more) the extra brake dust associated with non-sintered pads are not a big deal. I can say i haven't ever had brake squeal like my buddies do on their bikes.

With about 3k miles on them now, the fronts look 80% and the rears are still new.
