I'm trying to get my original account restored (AndrewS). What 'appears' to have happened is that my contributor status expired, so my account was modified to reflect that. However, it now has NO permission to do anything. I can't post, can't use the 'contact us' link, can't view the forum, etc. I never thought I'd regret being a contributing member. I've twice tried to notify through housekeeping and 'contact us' but the account remains broken. This is very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.
Well, I go out of my way to try and be helpful to others on this forum. Now I have a problem, and have been offered no help whatsoever. Not a word from a single Mod even though a number my posts from this account have been approved (which is a PITA as well), so they've clearly been on the forum. Pretty disappointing. Where the hell is Coffee? This wouldn't happen if he was still active.
Still no luck. Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, it's my original account that has the permissions issues. I created this account (AndrewS2) because I can't do anything with my original account, AndrewS. This account now lets me post without mod approval, which makes it easier, but I would still like my original account fixed, as I have conversations and contacts through that account. Thank you for helping.
Andrew: this happened to a bunch of us last october, so maybe it's an on-going problem. opening another account and doing the "probationary" thing is the only thing that works. (my old username was "shovelhead85") ruwfo and Joe Chod are the only two mods around and they're pretty overwhelmed. about your best hope is for your new account to get approved fast. [oops- I skimmed. I see you got "fast-tracked" so good deal] you'll lose all your valuable trophy points too... so there goes thousands of dollars down the drain [/sarcasm] I don't know what's up with Coffee either (I thought he had something like an illness, but he showed up at a CH event last fall so who knows?) but the Cafe has been running pretty smoothly in spite of everything (of course, losing control of my 5 year account sux but... WTH). Guess I should give a shout-out to ruwfo and joe: thanks, it can't be easy. good luck. ps- mods, i was just thinking: maybe you ought to create 1 or 2 alternate accounts, with mod privilege, in case this happens to you. ...or make a couple of new mods if you can (my nominees, if they'd take it: dirtdame, robertaccio, ajaxauto- these guys have been here since the very beginning and are active.) hell- maybe woodschick will come back... whoever pissed her off is probably gone; and she's an administrator here [pretty please? we miss your posts].
Interesting that it has happened to others. Were you a contributing member before it happened? I'm pretty sure the expiration of the status is when the trouble started. Initially, I was still able to access the account, but my posts required mod approval. IIRC, that was fixed, but then it changed to the sitewide permissions problem. There has to be a way to fix it. I've been administrator on a forum I set up for our local riders group, but it was vBulletin. I don't have any experience with XenForo, so I couldn't even suggest what may need to be done to restore the account. Can't imagine it would be too difficult, though, unless there's a bug preventing it. Yeah, I wouldn't mind losing my points and all that, but would like access to my conversations, etc. ^That's a shame about WoodsChick. I miss her posts.
oops- forgot about you Norman... he's another one that's been around forever and is still active. Did I leave anybody else off the short-list to be condemned (er,....moderator I mean)? I'm talking about members with the low, 2 or 3-digit member numbers who still post here.
It's pretty amazing that 2 people are keeping this thing alive. If you're here often enough to see this and know what's up, get your contribution on!
offered over and over again but it seems theres no way to add mods i guess. theres quite a few users here that are present everyday..
no, I was an everyday 6-year member who had started posting about 3 years ago. Then last October.... boom! about 5 (?) of us were solidly locked out of our accounts. It had a weird sw or hw failure feeling to it. one of the mods took a look and said "everything looks okay" but you still couldn't do anything. in the meantime, CH activity has slowed somewhat (but the decline has leveled off it seems); and it feels like there was some kinda social "turbulence" with the early core members about a year ago that was under the radar, so to speak. I'm impressed (and happy) that Cafe Husky keeps chugging along, though: it's fairly civil, informative, and fun here. I basically quit posting on the internet in 1989.
my main concern is the site disappears, as there is starting to be alot of information here. swedish and italian stuff that really cant be found elsewhere..nothing we can do about it apparently
hey...coffee is MIA...it is what it is...make what ya got....keep it pinned....hope we make it back to the van ...all good....now enough!
