If not I'm gonna paint it John Deere Blitz Black. I thought I'd just leave it red, but I can't help myself. Even my Ducati turned Blitz Black (excellent paint btw) Let me know soonish. I'm pretty bored so I'll probably be spraying before long.
You could always try plasti-dip...google is your friend. The stuff works pretty good..it's kinda a mat Finnish..(not glossy) I did a KLR and it worked out well..best thing is if you don't like it....peel it off. Car Guys even do their wheels with the stuff. It really works well...not any prep work...just make sure it's clean and dry. Several thin coats.
...or vinyl wrap them. Easy, safe, and a bazillion different colors and finishes (even carbon fiber).
+1, but what Trapperj mentions on the plasti-dip sounds like a good option too. I know you are ready to touch off that rattle can, but the whole scratch and rub issue and a big red exposed spot isn't going to be pretty. Both options above sound better and more durable than just paint. I was going to paint mine, but opted to order the Strada panels ($120ish). Would love to see what carbon wrap panels would look like. I was scared to do it on the side panels, but I liked Kjack's idea of doing the white panels. I hope you do it Kjack.
I will....but still gotta get the TR first! Lol, I have a skid and a bunch-o-other stuff but no bike yet. Soon, maybe a week or two.
I hear what youre saying about the black rubbing off... but- have you tried Blitz Black?? It's CRAZY how durable this stuff is! Its an epoxy paint that JD sells for it's implements. Hot rodders use it a lot because it's tough as nails (but you cannot paint over it, including pinstripes- NOTHING sticks to it!) I don't know if you can tell from the pics of my hyper but the color is a perfect not too shiny, not too dull and if you do happen to rub through (my knees haven't on the hyper in maybe 5k miles) you can always just give it another shot! Highly recommended for anything colorful that you'd like to be not so colorful... I love the remarks I get from the typical Ducati crowd for making it matte black. Priceless.
Sweet tip...Thanks! I was raised on John Deere. My dad was the service manager for a few dealerships that were here in eastern Colorado. I still have the John Deere trampoline he brought home for me when I was 7. Great products!
Bought a set of black ones from dealer. His cost was a little over 87.00. Worth it to have a spares not knowing what the spare situation may be one day....
If I could find a Husqvarna die cut sticker similar to the Husaberg ones- I think they would fit on the "tank" sides where the tr650 stickers originally were.
I used to work at a sign shop where most of our signs were computer-aided designs which were sent to the "plotter"-- a 3 foot wide x-acto knife printer that would cut the design into the vinyl sticker material. We had various thicknesses (durability) and a zillion color options. I suggest you take your Husaberg down to a "Signs first" type shop and let them look at it. If they've got a good computer person, I bet you could walk away with color matched, high quality vinyl decal in a few hours. Spray it with clear coat and you'll still pay less than you would buying decals from a dealer. Just my .02.
