plug out of my 02 cr 250-does it look like im a bit lean ? ,or am i being a worry wart! im running stock mikuni tmx 38 with 380 main and 32.5 pilot -needle is at 3 (middle). it seems to babble a bit if i hold throttle steady at slower speeds (i know kind of typical for 2 stroke) - but roll on throttle and you better be hangin on-she goes like a SOB! pulls hard all the way up -no bog, or anything -just the low speed babble thing. any thoughts?? photo(2).JPG

looks slightly lean. Does it have any lean symptoms like idle hanging / running on or overheating? that a new plug / very low miles? what oil and gas are you running? I have seen race gas bikes jetted perfect that look that clean.

Yes ,plug is pretty new-maybe 5 hrs. -doesn't over heat,no seize-(yet) Idles suprisingly good-usually fires first or second kick -cold or warmed up-all seems well ,but plug has me a bit spooked-thinkin about goin to 35 pilot and see what happens-rather foul a plug than lock her up!

Mine looks like that with VP110 race fuel and Ammsoil Dominator when it's jetted perfect. It will color up more in the hot summer

lankydoug is correct.i run my jetting on my 02 cr250 390mj 61 needle 2nd from top 4 slide 32.5 pj. amsoil interceptor/ dominator mix at 44/ 50 to 1.race fuel 96 100 octane.elevation 500/1200ft.if you have stock jetting then you should have 4 slide.60 neede witch is richerthan 61. i have seen some crs come with a 3.5 slide but most of those slides are in the wrs.what are your temps and elevations.

The insulator area in the photo is reflects the low speed / mid range area and I agree with Kelly. Look further down the insulator with a flashlight and see what it looks like down there to determine main jet status.

TCP is right that you should look down in the well of the plug at the insulator to really be sure. I use a magnifying glass with a light on it. If there is black specs or worse yet flecks of aluminum stuck to the porcelain that indicates a too lean condition. The fact that the metal rim of the plug by the threads is black tells me that you probably wont find it too lean but you should still look. Also realize that you are close to the ragged edge where the bike rips so if the air changes for the better (like on a cool dry day) you could easily be too lean. A hot humid day will get you more color because the air gets worse making the jetting richer/safer. I try to jet mine on the ragged edge on the best air at the lowest altitude, that way I'm safe everywhere else I go without having to mess with the jetting.

Kinda looks like the plug in my 04 WR250 with a PWK carb.
I'm just a touch lean in the mid right now cause I've been racing sea level in the cold.
I would pull my needle up a clip but I'm too lazy and I need to get 60 miles out of a full tank of gas.
When it warms up it will be perfect.

If I were you I'd just lay off running WFO in the deep sand too long.

As long as the bike pulls hard at full throttle without gasping for air it should be fine.

And to answer nonamerider's question about temps/elevation, i'm out here in northern CA, Sacramento valley so temps have been pretty nice-low to mid 70's and elevation is about 130 ft. just enogh rain to keep dust down and not muck us up too much!
