I noticed mine has a good millimeter sized deep chunk missing where it hits my foot peg. Is this common?

Pretty common on every make and model of dirt bike that has an aluminum kickstarter.

Seems better than my 05 KTM EXC 250 and my 03 KDX 220 (Fredette aftermarket kicker).

I file the rough edges off about once a year. I also cut a 3/4" cross section out of a front HD Tube and twisted it up/over and down the kick starter. It helps with the foot peg damage and it also keep the kickstarter from rattling against the expansion chamber.

don't worry firecrotch the whole kicker assembly will crap itself before the kicker snaps. mines fairly chunked out but the ball bearing thing in there that stops it from flapping around when riding shat itself 6 months ago-locked solid mid ride(against pipe) & had to use both hands to free it so could start it then it wouldn't stay put. looked & saw the ball bearing & spring had gone MIA. ziptie holding it there now. looks crap & a pain in the arse but effective none the less. will buy a new one some day:p
