I just bought an '08 TE 450. I had a ktm 250 2t that was dirt only prior to this. My Husky has the full DS kit. My questions is what do you guys do with all the DS equipment when you are riding more aggresively offroad? The bike has the big whale tale tag mount now which I plan on doing away with. Other than that, it there anything that you guys strip down to ride offroad with or are there expenseive replacement DS parts that I want to be more concerned with protecting?

Thanks for the input. I included some pics as well.

In my experience, i think protecting the rear blinkers/taillight/plate is the biggest thing. I have dropped my 610 a bunch of times and my handgaurds have done an awesome job of keeping my handlebar controls and switches intact.

I have taken the indicators off the bike as well as mirrors etc. The police here will seldom ping you if you only ride on the dirt. I have bark busters, bash plate and rear disc guard. other than that she is a stock 450. The replacement led rear light and guard are a good idea and will get it when I next break the large OEM tail light again. Oh take the top chain protector off as well.

If I break the rear blinkers it's not really that big of a deal. I do ride some dual sport events so i want to have them, but I will eventually get the small little LED light and signals to be a little more stealth and not like I'm riding a ugly monster DRZ or something!

I ran the Husky racing tail light with sportbike flush mounts on the side lip of the racing tail light. I never had these break. This was not 100% legal as the tail light did not have a clear tag light.

I've raced my 510 a bunch with the full DS set up on. I run the ZETA hand shields that have the blinkers in them and some small LED's out back. I have removed the rear for some gnarly races.

    OMFG...really!?!

You would get pulled over and beaten with batons if you tried to ride this bike in California(stan).

    You have...
    no plate
    non DOT tires
    no clear light
your turn signals aren't far enough apart
    too loud
no lamda sensor (that's the arrow PU pipe eh?)
    no carbon canister

maybe I should lighten up and move to VA.

WELL NOW, that is why we have 50 states to choose from...just kidding. To be honest I never rode that bike on the street. I was always going to and it just never happened. Actually here in VA I could have gotten away without turn signals. Technically it reads that if a bike does not have the switch that hand signals will work. I could have removed the switch and doubt I would have gotten in trouble.

If it makes you feel better, we do have to wear helmets even on scooters...You got us on that one.

    Yep!!!:busted:
Even the new KTM 250f rider Tommy Searle from the UK was quoted in a recent Motocross Mag. as saying "the only thing I fear is the cops hear in America (California), they are everywhere and they never give you a break..etc..

I like that set up! Where would I find that tail light set up? I don't plan on using it a lot on the road. It won't be a commuter bike. Just for riding some dual sport events, forest roads etc. Most of the time I'll be with several other bikes so I won't be drawing attention to myself.

I like the idea of running small led signals in the hand sheilds in the front as one post mentioned. That would look cool but we run a lot of tight single track. As much as I bang bars on trees, that could get expensive!

Huh, i ride my 610 on the street all the time and never get hassled for the lights/blinkers/exhaust even when i got pulled over for speeding (he just wanted to check registration). Granted i do have a taillight (not DOT) blinkers (not DOT and too close together) and a mirror(it was folded up on the bars (lol). So i was making an effort, haha. California cops aren't that bad.

And i am confused by your last statement... California does indeed have a helmet law, even for scooters.

I see you have the rare Flaxxbar hand guards I built in limited quantity some years ago. Don't see many around.

Those came from you? Good to hear. I know the guy's screen name on KTMtalk.com that I was the original owner, but I don't know his real name. He's from right down the road in Daytona.

My mistake then, thought you had some counties where helmets were a option. Just throwing out a picture on what it looked like on my bike.

Here's my minimalist DS kit. I leave it on when I'm racing. Everything is LED including the headlight.

The LED taillight/plate holder shown in raisrx251's photo is an optional one that is available from Husqvarna. I have the same one. Very bright, and very lightweight.
