    Hi All,

I'm currently waiting on my 165 kit with pipe & Lectron from Kelly/Walt, I was wondering what other mods may be worth doing at the same time and I have come across a dual map ignition for a good price.

    A couple of questions:

1 - The dual map ignition says it for 1999-2002 CR only models? Is there a difference between this and my 2004, I was under the impression that most parts on where interchangeable from 2000-2004?

Checked the Husky parts list for both 02 & 04 and they both use 8000 83087 ignition modules.

2 - Is it even worth doing, or am I wasting my time even considering it?

When the 165 kit arrives my bike will be receiving some love with a major tear down & rebuild new plastics, graphics, swing arm & linkage bearings, head stock bearings, suspension service, crank seals etc I'm going to be like a little kid on Christmas day when it arrives :-)

Appreciate any suggestions from you guys of what else I should consider at the same time.
I'll gest some pics uploaded to keep you posted on progress.

    Many thanks in advance!

The dual ignition kit does not come with a handle bar switch so you need to also get that if you go that route. The dual map was mostly used so that there was a map for whooped out or choppy mx tracks to smooth the very top. It doesn't make a huge difference. I mounted a CDI from an 09 KTM 200 that has dual maps and the second map is a much less aggressive map. It makes a substantial difference. I rarely or ever ride in mud so I have blocked the handle bar switch in the hot map as it seemed to get nocked into soft when I least needed it.

Can't wait to hear and see the completed rebuild.

Walt - are the connections the same or do you have to modify the connector on the harness for the KTM CDI ?

Would this give better traction on steep banks ?

    Thanks For the feedback Walt.

I have ordered the one (inc switch). At that price I thought I'll give it a go, although shipping to UK cost nearly as much as the unit :(

Not sure if the link will work but search the Fast by Ferracci web site for F46600 and it comes up.

    Web site States the following:
Provides improved throttle response, and added horsepower.
Improves Torque, and creates a hotter spark making starting easier.
More spark energy greatly improves fuel burn.

Switch ignition maps on-the-fly with a flick of the switch. Increases spark energy greatly and improves starting, throttle response, and increases mid range and top end horsepower. Effectively eliminates overrev popping. Unit can be reprogrammed for individual performance needs.

I do think I'll install the 165 kit etc without the dual map to start off, just so I have a bench mark with the standard ignition module.

I got the KTM upper wiring harness with the CDI. The stator wire connection to the CDI wiring harness are the same for both the KTM and the CR Husky ignition. They are both Kokusan. The KTM ignition has connectors that are setup to plug in a handle bar switch.

I had the FBF ignition. It is a nice ignition and is programmable. The hot map is very similar to stock.

They are for CR ignitions. Your WR is the old analog system.

I have run the CR ignition before - I do know I prefer the WR ignition on the 125 for trails - not sure about on the 165
