I have a 2 month old 09 TE 450 and noticed in the paper work I got with the bike that you can have a switch fitted to enable MAP settings 1 and 2 for differnt ground conditones etc. It then comes up on the display as SEL 1 or SEL 2 at start up.
Has anyone got this fitted and if so is it worth having?
This was not mentioned to me by my dealer when I bought it but will ask him at the next service.

    thanks mate,
I guess if I get serious with my enduros I may have it fitted.
    How's the 2010 250?
What did you have before that?

Yes the dealers have so much to answer for. A good delaer makes all the difference.
Luckily my dealer is a full on enduro rider himself so has set the bike up with the full power kit. I just need to check with him on the MAP settings.
Can't wait for the weather to cool down here so I can get some miles on the bike.
Forecast of 40 degrees here tomorrow and very high fire danger so won't get the bike out in that!

The dual mode switch does do exactly as described by Budweiserfrogie. It's easy to fit, just plugs in behind the headlight and does take the edge of the motor if you're in wet / muddy conditions.

The bike has to be warmed up before it will operate (over 40 degrees water temp I think) and you have to hold the switch down for about 5 seconds to switch between maps. The dash will show SEL1 (full power) or SEL2 (soft mode) as it changes modes.

Its a low cost mod and particularly useful on 450/510s. The other option which also helps make the 450/510 more manageable is the G2 throttle system with the elliptical cams which give greater throttle control. We've had very good feedback from customers who have fitted the G2 saying it transforms the bike. More info on www.g2ergo.com.

I use the G2 throttle cam with the 400 fitting it is heaps better , you don't get those 4T throttle stalls , from snapping the throttle . It works for me , it don't stall now , but i do use a recluse as well , makes it so easy to ride.

Make sure you get the plastic inserts in the throttle cam , they don't rattle , and get the full set of cams , they are interchangeable you may not like someone else's choice of cam . Goggle them to find a supplier .

I've got a factory power map put on my 09 TE 450 and use it a heap. The "petty coat" mode is great for hill climbs and I will put it on if I am on a long ride and know I am getting low on fuel (not sure if this helps...?) so I can limp home. I reckon that it takes a bit too long to engage the 2 different modes. I would like it to come on a bit quicker. Does anyone know how to speed that up? also, has anyone had any dramas with their 09 model graphics coming unstuck? Mine are peeling off like a Englishman's skin in the Aussie sun!

If it were me I'd ask in a separate thread in the common topics area regarding the plastics. I'm not sure anyone would think to look in a dual map / throttle cam thread if they are looking for solutions to their own plastics problem they might be having.
