Wondering if anybody has had success with Duplicolor spray can paint redoing a vintage tank? I am doing a "rider rebuild" on a '73 250WR and would like a nice looking tank finish but doesn't have to be "showroom" perfect since it's a rider.
Any opinions/suggestions on red color (lots of Duplicolor red colors so I'm confused) and type primer is definitely appreciated!
    Regards,
    Mark

Use a self etching primer if you strip the tank. I just finished a rider. I just picked a red and went with it. My tank has dents so like you, it wasn't going to be a show piece anyway.

By searching the web you can find several paint vendors that will mix paint to any formula you want. Just use the Husky club red formula have them mix it and they will
put in a spray can. Oh you must use a matched clear to this base coat clear coat option.

Had this done once so far worked great. I tried Andy s of HVA gold formula just to try it out. I did clear by using compressor sprayed mixed clear

Gary, Thx for the info, I went with Duplicolor Cherry Red, I was very pleased with the results. I removed all the old paint, sprayed 3 coats of Duplicolor Etching Primer, then 3 light coats and one heavy coat of the Cherry Red. Here's a pic before I polished the tank panels and still needing the white pin stripes around the chrome. I'll get better photos when I finish it.

I hope the paint is fuel resistant? It would sure be a shame if not. BTW Looks great!!

I don't know about the paint being fuel resistant, prolly should have thought about checking. AARGHHH.........Anyway, this thing is gonna be a vintage racer so it will soon have "battle scars" anyway. The good news is the paint job looks pretty good and was cheap! Can't wait to wind it up and ride.
I've actually also found, thx to Fleabay, a NOS Windsor plastic tank that I will use as the "race tank" so maybe the original won't get beat up.
Thanks for the compliments everybody, will post more pics soon.

I got it at my local NAPA auto parts store. I think AutoZone may also carry it. I finished it off with 4 coats of clear coat.
