I'm interested in trying the lectron carb, and am curious how it will effect starting. I have a 12 wr 300 that is the hardest starting bike i have ever owned! I was thinking about the 36 mm carb because i am not looking for more top end power. Is there a way for me to try before i buy, or is there somone close whose bike i can test ride? I am in the north eastern corner of maryland.

I don't have a Lectron, but if you want to try starting my bike with the PWK, I can offer that. Sometimes it takes a few kicks cold, but hot it fires right up.

If you're in Elkton or North East or something, I'm not far away, just over the PA border near Chester.

Not sure a Lectron is a magic bullet to starting. Those bikes start fine if jetted right. A lectron will make it start good to when setup right. A Lectron does bring a lot of good to the table but not sure if it is necessary to replace the carb to get your bike to start better. Will it start better? Probably as it will be jetted better than your bike is now. Make sense?

+1. My Mikuni was garbage to ride on my 02. Lectron is amazing. I bought my bike last May, and I can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times it has taken more than one kick to start hot or cold even with the Mikuni. (Aside from initial start-up after Lectron install.) Always in neutral though. Won't even try in gear anymore:thumbsdown:

Yeah it makes sense. I have the jd jet kit though. Weird thing is that when i adjust the a/s the idle speed doesn't change, but id does run smoother or rougher. Thought it was supposed to speed up ( leaner) or slow down ( richer ).

I have a couple of pwk's sitting around. Pretty much the same as the air stryker? I think i saw somewhere else that someone said " the only difference is the two small wings in the mouth of the air stryker"..

When I had my Mikuni, before the Lectron, even when the jetting was off and running like crap, I could still start the bike in 1-2 kicks. In my opinion, either there is probably something else wrong or your technique needs some work.

Well, i don't have the strongest legs lol. My technique worked good on my yz though, so i was thinking that the bike is just too big for me. I love the 300 but it may just be too much for me to kick. I'm going to look into what motosportz said about the pilot being too rich, and try the pwk. If it doesn't help i'll prob sell it.

How tall are you? If you're less than 6', I would imagine it would be difficult to start the WR. When I messed up my knee and couldn't give it all my strength, I had trouble starting mine. My bike with the Mikuni was weird. I had to use a 50 pilot and a 440 main at 900' of elevation to run properly. Nope, no air leaks. What everyone was using for jetting at sea level, I was using at 6000-7000' in Colorado. When I installed the Lectron, I was expecting to have to go richer than where everyone else was, but that was not the case. Basically the same settings as everyone else was using.

I'm 6'2 195lbs i have a 32.5 pilot at sea level, and it's still acts rich. I'm kinda just irritated w the bike. I would sell if i could, but nobody seems to want it. Biggest mistake i ever made was selling my yami because i had the husky.
    TRIPLE-M likes this.

 I would think a 300 would be an easy sell. I would buy one in a heartbeat but the funds just don't allow. Would want to swap in my old WR trans though.:excuseme:

Well, it's not a height issue. I hope you figure it out.

With dealers practically giving away new 300's, the used market on the 300's are in the toilet.

There use to be a video showing how to start a 300, I haven't been able to find it, so I made one. Sorry for the poor quality, it's an old Go Pro. I also need to loose about 30+lbs.

I think i saw it. The guy had a foreign accent. Looked like he just booted the s%#^ out of it by swinging his leg and hammering it. Right?

I tried to put a pwk on this weekend, but , it was to long. The air boot was kinked and rubbing the shock. I put the mikuni back on and lowered the needle. This helped, but , it still doesn't like to start in gear. Started by the second kick in neutral though. Since i'm stuck w the bike i'm going to look for a 250 cyl and head.
