Hi, Love some help before I pull out the little hair I left. My 06 Sm610 sat for several years. Just replaced all fluids, filters, battery, etc but starter won't fire. Replaced starter solenoid, tested starter which is fine. Trying to find out what wiring might have shorted. Something is keeping it from starting. Checked clutch lever switch at the lever but can't figure where it goes into main wiring harness. Any ideas would be appreciated. THanks !

You'll need to be more clear about what is happening and what the symptoms are. Why are you sure that there is a short? What is the status of the connections to the starter solenoid? You need to verify (with a meter) that the starter switch properly activates the solenoid, and you need to verify that the large leads on the solenoid are good (I believe one should be power and one should be ground, but I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me). You can usually bypass the entire starting circuit by jumping the two big terminals on the solenoid (with something like a screwdriver, be careful!), that basically just tests the starter and its wiring.

My headlight wiring was intermittently shorting to the back of my fork leg where the wiring passes around the head tube, and it would sometimes draw enough current to prevent starting.

Had similar years ago on my 510, triples had nipped a wire in the loom on lhs as it passes through from under tank up to controls etc.
