Looks like a customer sent me a bug, first his Email sent me adds and now my Email is sending adds out. Very sorry if you got and interesting Email from me, we are working on it. Looks like it hit a lot of people. Kelly
Yes, those things happen. I got an email from someone which was very uncharacteristic (link only). While I did not click on the link my computer did act a bit odd until I re-booted just because I opened the email.
I got one from you. LOL. At first I was excited to see that you had sent me a love letter.... It's all good.... that kinda thing happens to everyone.
I got it from someone Saturday. Today I see I sent it to 100 people before my Email program said enough and closed it. Now i cant send Emails. Fark. Don;t need this now as I am backed up and need to get stuff done. Stupid spammers !
Was this with a gmail account? Any tidbits you want to share that may help others? (you mentioned email program)
Yes. Mine is Gmail. and Kelly's came from his Gmail. I use lastpass for password management. I haven't had any issues in the year or so I've been using it. lastpass.com It's a KILLER service.
For the record, when people have their email account setup for auto responses such as out of the office or we are having email issues - then when they get a PM notification from Cafe Husky, that immediately bounces back to me. Just wanted to let everyone know that.
I received two of these e-mails on separate accounts (neither were gmail) from Kelly today. I was immediately suspicious so I didn't click on any links, and no harm was done. I just wanted to point out that they weren't limited to gmail accounts.
Several Moto forums are reporting it to. It was sent to me Sat and this morning it sent out a bunch from my Email. Very Sorry.
Kelly, I have gotten a couple in the last couple of days and one from Jake so you might let him know. Irritating but not fatal it seems. I have had this virus before and took measures to eliminate it since. At least I don't seem to be sending bad e-mails recently. Walt
thanks. Jake Let me know this morning he got one from me and another friend. It seems to be everywhere. Really messing up my VERY busy day. Freaking hacks.
The funny thing is I got the email from Chris in Montana first, I didn't open it. Then I got it from my friend Trav and did not open it. I did not get one from Kelly, I was venting to him about my issues with it this morning. He checked his and it had been hacked also. My account sent out 200 emails from an IP address in Romania. I do not believe it is a virus, I am running linux at home and android on my phone. That is about as safe as you can get as far as viruses/malware/phishing go. My work is well protected with symantec AV and a program that doesn't let anyone surf unnecessary sites from work. I also don't use any email program for my gmail, only the web interface through a https connection. My Gmail account was not "hacked" they logged in using my password. A password consisting of random numbers and letters that mean nothing to anyone but me. This issue has been through 8 people that I know of all of them have been riders and active on moto forums. A few that I have talked to used the same password for their email account as their forum log in, like me. I believe someone hacked into one of the forums and obtained the user emails & forum passwords and is using them for spam. I strongly encourage anyone that the same password for email and forum logins change it. Lastpass will be getting a visit from me. Later,
Looks like some other vbuliten forums are getting hit with the same issue. Wonder if this was the stuff Coffee was talking about when he was talking about switching forum software... Later,
Jake, Great info. When I was having problems I changed all my passwords too. Makes me want to go back and do it all over again.
Wallybean... Check out lastpass. I don't get anything from anyone signing up, I'm just a really satisfied customer. It's GREAT for auditing your passwords as well as keeping them organized. I use their auto generate feature for all sites I log into now.
Possibly. When you see those types of things look at the vb version at the bottom. If it says vb3.8.4 PL1 or older, there is a known issue which was "fixed" in vb3.8.4 PL2 and newer -- the thing is, if we had gone to 3.8.4 PL2 then many of you would no longer be able to login anymore, at least not without significant grief involved. The software we were using had significant issues, at least with my skill level using it. Ironically, the newer versions of vb are even more problematic than the old versions. Though they tend to fix the major screw ups reasonably quickly.
Why don't you all try to gather as much information as possible, try to see a pattern, and I will ask people that know these types of things.
Just to be clear - these items are in your outbox/sent items? And that is how you know they were sent from your account?
funny to see this... Yep I got an email from you Kelly, stating you had a new business. I don't get spam or junk mail and it was from you so I clicked it. Then I immediately knew it was a spam virus or whatever cause I knew your new business would not be selling Canadian Viagra.... I replied to your spam email... (ignorantly, fearlessly, or stupidly) basically to let you know something was up with your email. I recieved one on a work computer before and didn't have a problem... did the same thing..No harm/ no foul/ no appologies... its part of the internet... I don't have any computer problems either: my email didn't send out any spam. ? I am on a Dell from Walmart, windows vista, and "free" AVG virus software- so I am not special or overly protected.
