I was wondering if anyone know how to get ahold of any type of factory documents about a UK Spec TR650? I will be moving back to the U.S. next year and the shipping company said that to import if I need documentation showing what emission standards the bike meets.
Well, nothing in the service manual, and the US bike doesn't have an emission sticker like cars here. The only info I could find on mine is a evap. system info sticker on the right fork leg between the triples and a noise emission certification sticker on the right side of the swing arm.
I am not aware of any official documents, however in various specification lists I note that the UK spec TR 650 Terra/Strada are built to Emission Standard EU3. My bike has no info, but I recall my friends Strada has a Canadian Emission Sticker on the white part of the tail just under the luggage rack. Check your particular Owners Manual for any extra info.
Drive it across. The DMV will look for this sticker on the swingarm. There may also be another sticker/label on the bike somewhere for the pollution requirements. It will be a sticker on the frame somewhere. This one was easy to find, I did not look for the others if they exist. The other if exists will be conforming to EPA stuff. No paperwork.
Each bike will have the regulatory labels etc related to the country it was originally sold in, so they will probably differ a lot from country to country. I'd contact the UK Husqvarna distributor and ask them for something in writing.
This is the only sticker I could find on my bike there's nothing on the swingarm. I did however get a hold of BMW customer service and I should be able to get a certificate of compliance from them.
Stupid me! just came back from a ride and noticed this on the upper left fork tube but I think you are ok with what you found, I think the e3 is what they would look for.
The only problem is the shipping company says that they need a letter or certificate stating it's emission compliance to get through customs. I'm going to try calling KTM customer service once I get home from work. I couldn't find any phone numbers to call earlier because I kept trying to find a number for Husqvarna.
I don't know what the paperwork is like for a UK bike, but at least in Belgium every bike comes with a certificate of conformity that a.o. lists the emission standards. For my Terra it is completely in Italian so it is called "certificato di conformita a CE". Based on experience from previous bikes (Yamaha and Honda) you can get a duplicate from the importer with your VIN number. Based on that same experience they will also charge an arm and an eye for that simple piece of paper...
Yes I am military, but even though the bike ships with household goods it still needs to clear customs.
