Is there any way to ID and engine without a number on it? I bought a 84 wr400 a few months back. It has no numbers on the engine. The center case must have been changed in the past. I see numbers on the cylinder but I guess they are casting numbers. I'm not sure if it's even a 400. There is nothing showing the CC size like I have seen in the past.

Remove head, measure bore then measure stroke Bore squared X Stroke X 3.1416 divide by 4 =CC.

the bore size is somewhat of a giveaway..what number is on the cylinder? i assume the bike is liquid cooled?

Sorry, yes it's liquid cooled. And I'm still looking for center cases for it. 1614574 is on the cylinder.

stick a tape up the exhaust port, 400 is 82 - 82 mm or so bore
