I went to Erzberg this year- didnt qualify for the main race (my bike wasnt set up to run fast enough)- but got some insight and will be better prepared next year. I hope you guys will enjoy the pictures....
Thats what i thought- i tried- i m already preparing for 2019. I ordered some engine cases for a 5 speed WR450 gearbox conversion so i can run a lot higher max speed which might be the few seconds i was off to qualify. Anyway- its only good memories beeing there- i can only recommend to participate to anyone here!
i had a 19inch rear tire (Goldentyre) and an 18inch (X-Grip) Tire- the 18inch was about 3 cm more in diameter... 14:48 was not even close to be fast enough so i bought some engine cases yesterday to put an WR426 5Speed Gearbox in it (i remember have similar issues with my Husky 250 when i was looking for the older 6 speed gearboxes) Next year i ll be prepared!
First parts did arrive... have to decide if i go for the full WR gearbox or the YZ/WR hybrid (3,4,5 WR gears, 1 and 2 YZ)
Hope you find that extra bit of speed, must be so frustrating to be seconds away from qualifying. Thanks for sharing this with us Miezie.
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sfm4hjw8A4 This is Blake Gutzeit (RSA) Qualify for the main Race- just listen to the Engine and you get an idea how much tospeed counts. I tried to be faster in the tighter sections- but couldnt find anything to improve really.
Good work Miezie on entering such a difficult race. Most people only wish they could go watch while you threw your hat in the ring and went for it.
He works with the same local suspension guys then i did- they told me he uses a YZ250X and will find out the sprokets been used...
Mate to just miss out must be disapointing. Remember 99% of riders wouldn't get close. I wish you well for next year and hope you will keep us updated on the developments on your bike.
