Excellent review of 2012 TXC 310 in the April dirtbike mag. Seems they liked the bike and really didn't have anything to complain about. They even liked the FI!(that's a first). Must be due to the 12 port injector and ECU. It still had the older head though.

    Running weight, no fuel= 234lb! Impressive for a 310!

I get to ride my buddies 2011 TE310 with EFI tuner and uncorked a lot, it is a fantastic bike. Husky needs to widen the transmission on it though and make 5th and 6th a good bit taller. It will pull it EZ and would make the bike far more versatile. Needs a larger tank option too. Those two things would sell a ton more of those bikes.

In the U.S. maybe ! But leave it alone for us in Europe !

Its a "racing enduro bike" lets keep it as that and not turn it into some "10 gallon, 600mile trail bike".

Just because 600 miles is ... London to Aberdeen with room to spare doesn't mean us folks on decently sized land masses shouldn't have some fun! ;)

How would a 3 gallon tank and taller 5th, and 6th make it less of a bike for you? Would sure open up the possibilities for us and not change the off road prowess. The factory could make 2 gears and one tank and sell 2x the bikes. Husky needs to start thinking big picture IMHO. This has worked well for KTM.

I think we better leave this one ! Lets face it the good ole USA is just going great at the mo !!!

Why I dont want to carry extra fuel is obvious ? The larger tank on the 011 & 012 is a pain in the arse now ! (Difficult removal, Balance Pipes , Spark Plug access etc....) Why carry 12 litres (and make all of above worse ) when I only need 6/7 ?

I race enduro in the UK (what the bike was designed for !) and only occasionally hit top gear now , so why would I want taller gears ? Is it logical to buy a bike with 6 gears and only use 4 ?

What im trying to suggest is the bike is great at what it is designed for now , period . If you want some "dual sport" "trail" type piece of crap with mirrors ,racks, luggage , 20 litres fuel etc... great , buy one , but dont try to convince Husky to convert a race bike into one for you .

I can see there may be a need for a "special" U.S. model with these "parts" but please leave the rest of us (who are happy) alone !

OK, then maybe it IS just a USA thing. KTM sells a ton of bikes because they listen to the customer and sell many odd displacements all (but the SX models) with big tanks and long transmissions and they seem to still be at the top of 90% of the off road world in racing. Read the forums (yes, i guess the ones i read are USA sites) but the customers are SHOUTING for years for bigger tanks, even ones we can by aftermarket, and longer range transmissions. USA and Australia are good markets and could be much more with these two simple changes. They could easily make two versions just like they offer the low TE250 and TXC which was US inspired. Keep the TXC as the race bike with tight trans and make the TE with a big tank option and longer 5th and 6th. EZ.

I read this thread with interest and see both sides. I have a TE 310 but it never goes on a road. All the dual sport stuff is stripped off of it. So for me, no need to change the gears for the same reasons as DG Harv Serv mentions. There are some rides where we have to strategically locate gasoline but I'm not the only one/bike in the group with that issue. I'm not entirely sure why this model was made as a dual sport bike in the first place as it has the limitations Motosportz points out. It truely is an offroad enduro bike in its present form. Make another model for the folks that want it for dual sport purposes but don't take away this configuration as it is almost perfect (powered up of course).

Your point is valid- but only for Western Euro short course races. There is a huge world outside of Western Euroland; North America, Central & South America, Australia, Russia, Asia, South Africa, all of them needing the same RACE bike with decent fuel capacity, and trans ratios.
Come over and ride a desert race, or? then you'll understand why. Why do you feel you have to put all 11 liters in if you only need 7? Just put 7 in and ride your race.

It's no harm to anyone for Husky to add extra ratios in the hard parts catalog. Husky!!! are you listening?
The more versatile a bike is, the better for everyone.

a cassette gearbox would have helped in that matter, buy a different gear set, go from desert to single track set up rel quick.

It was a good move anyway. More and more races require it and lots of open ride areas are much EZer to connect if you can rip down the street a few miles and continue your loop. Opens a lot of opportunity and for that it is great. Add taller 5th and 6th and big tank options and sell 3x more of them and open up a lot of other possibilities. Great for Ds rides that are primarily off road.

Put a 4.5 gallon tank and wider ratio gear box on the TE model and leave the TXC as it is now (2.2g tank and close ratio transmission).

Bam, problem solved, market appeal widened, Husky sells tons of bikes.

Why 4.5 gallons? That's what it takes to get the magic 150 mile range.

TXC comes without lights etc... and is not widely available in Europe !

For most European Enduros bike must be road registered.

I could think of improvements I would like to see as well :-

    Closed Cartridge Forks.
Easier / Faster Air Filter Change etc...

But NOBODY makes ONE Bike too keep everybody Happy ! If they did there would only be one model !

I give up on this one ! But Please ask for a "new" model for your "150 mile rides" not mess with my Race Bike !

By the way mnb, Im sure I read a post just now, saying you have 400 miles on your bike ? Does this mean you only been out 2 or 3 times ??? ;)

No, it means I don't do 150 mile rides, because I don't have the range with my 2.2 gallon, 70 mile range, tank. I'm stuck riding at dirt bike parks.

This doesn't mean I don't care about your needs or interests. I'd be happy with a 5 gallon aftermarket tank (as long as it doesn't cost $800).

Were not trying to argue or change your mind. The TE could be the bike we need and the TXC or TC the bike you need. Or like KTM offer a "EXC or W-EXC" to cover both camps. All I am saying is husky would sell 2-3 times the 250-310's here in the USA and in many other places listed above by simply offering one model with a longer 5th and 6th and a tank option. Simple effective way to make a pile more money, sell way more bikes and get better mag reviews to... sell more bikes.

The TE's are perfect for what they are designed for. Registerable enduro race bikes. if you want 100 mile + rangs bikes that are good for tranport then go buy a DRZ

I've had big tanks (3.5gal) for my last 2 bikes, always end up taking them off and only put on a couple times for certain rides, nice to have the option but don't want a huge tank on all the time.
Would like a taller 6th to cruise between trail sections but am okay with just slowing down a bit and resting up on the road before diving back into the fun stuff!
Ask aftermarket companies for the larger tank if there is enough interest they will build it. Can't believe you would want a 5 gal. tank in a 310 though, do you bring oil and change on the trail? Seems you should be more worried about oil capacity if you ride those distances.
I agreee this bike was never intended for any more street than needed to connect small patches of asphalt between trails and needs to be treated as such. If they redesign with larger tank taller gears would likely also get more oil capacity, possibly cush rear hub and along with it more permanant SMOG equiptment, bigger battery, better lighting with steel mounts, passenger pegs and now you have 280lbs and a very small engine. Just saying be careful what you ask for might get too much.
Just got a 2011 TE 310 (leftover) and so far love it for what it is.
Women often try to make us into something we are not, relationship can't work, same will be true if you try to make a bike do something it's not deigned for. But some like the drama of trying.
