Well, my exhaust wrap came in the post this afternoon, so i have just stripped the heat shields off, and taken off the side panels, and seat, and spent a while in the garage making the exhaust look a little better, and helping me NOT burn my legs on it... lol. The wrap even came with stainless ties too. Only £9 delivered from 'the bay'.
erm..... i see what you are saying, but no, just my socks. As far as the heat proofing.... well lets just say, its not very, well, heat proof. After the initial warm up, which needed moving outside due to the fumes pouring off of it, it turns out that the wrap gets REALLY hot too, lol. Will update when i have been for a decent ride on it, and let you know if it all came unwrapped.
I've seen some guys who claim the wrap just eventually heats to the temp of the header, then it burns your riding pants just like the bare header would. I am not havimg the same experience. At Tinken's suggestion, I went with the DEI Titanium wrap. It was a bit expensive (and I bought way too much), but the header and bike does run cooler. I was was having a problem with my gas boiling on the TE 511 because the header was so close to the lower tank. Not a problem anymore.
I wonder if wrapping the header up to the resonator on an FMF header would increase the effect of the resonator by keeping the exhaust heat inside the pipe to that point so that it carries more energy into the resonator?
i have always been led to believe that wrapping an exhaust is more about performance than looks, or heat proofing, as the wrapped exhaust smooths the flow of gas as it carries it through the pipe, due to the lower amount of heat escaping through the sides. I however, just like how it looks, lol.
