FARES WELL IN GNCC OPENER Thomas Takes 2nd, Moss Makes 5th March 9, 2011 – Corona, CA - All eyes were on River Ranch, Florida, for the start of the 2011 Grand National Cross Country chase. With more than 230 entries on the starting line, GNCC is arguably the most important off-road series in the country. However Fred Andrews Racing / Team Husqvarna's Jason Thomas wasn't intimidated by the crowd, finishing second in class and 8th overall and picking up right where he left off last season, when he just missed the XC2 title by one point! “My TXC250 worked well all day long,” says Thomas. His Husqvarna was plenty powerful for the power-robbing sand in the Florida woods, as Thomas finished ahead of many big bore bikes and had closed to within a minute of race winner, 16-year old Steward Baylor. “I was faster than Baylor in some sections, but he was faster than me in others, so we had a pretty good race going. I made a push at the end and almost crashed, so I backed off for a sure second place… We are in this for the championship and I’ll gladly take 2nd place in the first round!” FAR teammate Morgan Moss was also in the mix for the XC2 race, finishing 5th in class and lucky 13th overall. “I didn’t feel that lucky when I had two big crashes,” says Moss, suffering from the sand washes the plagued many riders at the Florida opener. “I really wanted to podium today, but I crashed too many times in the deep sand… I am really looking forward to that tacky Georgia dirt coming up at the next race on Sunday!” Jason Thomas F.A.R.’s flying Finn Simo Kirssi was in contention for the XC1 Pro race until he had issues with the sand as well. Simo had to settle for 21st on a day he would rather not discuss. Veteran ISDE rider Amanda Mastin won the women’s class on her Hall’s Husqvarna TXC250... nothing new for Mandi as she has won the GNCC women’s title multiple times, not to mention being the 8-time Women’s Enduro champ. "I will be racing the TXC250 at all the National Enduros, GNCC’s and the ISDE," explains the versatile Ms. Mastin. Amanda Mastin"Not only is Husqvarna and Hall’s Cycle involved in the Enduros and Hare Scrambles, they are both big supporters of the ISDE (International Six Days Enduro), which plays a big role in my racing career. It feels good to have a company and manufacturer that really supports and understands what you do! I am excited for this year and confident that the partnership between myself, Husqvarna and Hall’s Cycle will lead to plenty of success throughout this 2011 season!" Speaking of success, Mandi won at the National Enduro round in South Carolina before taking the first GNCC round in Florida. "It is excited to see Husqvarna doing so well in the GNCC pro ranks and we are particularly proud of Mandi's accomplishments in her first two races of the year," says Husqvarna National Marketing Manager Corey Eastman. "We have the right bikes and with our generous retail financing program, we believe Husqvarna can help everyone 'Ride More' in 2011. Of course offering $12 million in contingency should also help with our Ride More message," concludes Eastman. I've no idea who that actually is, though I would expect it to be someone from FAR. As long as they can put up the results so I don't have to, that will save me time that is quite precious at the moment.
