FE/FC FE 501 comparison

Hey all, haven't been on here in a while. Selling my 07 TE 510 and wanted a FE 450 but we're not lucky enough to get that model. Eyeing the 501 and wondered if anyone can compare it to my bike or crf450x or the ktm 450xcf. Looked at the ktm and liked how light it felt. Never rode one to see how they handle but liked my buddies 450x, just thought it felt a little heavy and soft on power. Also how is the hit off idle? My 510 can be a bit much in the tight stuff. I think I read that the FE has the xcf frame and suspension so they should handle similar, right?Thanks for your replies!

Test rode a FE501 Husky last night. Very impressed with it. So much that I have my TE310 listed right now! Power is very smooth and it will tractor along in first gear with no throttle input. I want one Felt very light and tracked very well over rough terrain. Dealer was nice enough to let me rip around on it. I wouldn't hesitate to get one if you can find one. The only thing for me was the ergos. I'm tall and the bike felt roomy enough but the bars were too low for standing, easy fix.

Thanks for the review! I'm tall too 6'4". Brp makes nice triple clamps with risers that would fix that probably. Nice to know about the first gear lugging. My 510 has a burst about 3500 4000 that makes it difficult to get set in a turn leading uphill. My closest dealer won't let me ride one to compare. Thanks again!

I have a brp Scotts stabilizer undermount set up adds an inch (was to much for me so going with top mount) if your interested let me know. Its new, mounted and rode a couple hours and that's it.

Don't use risers, use Scott's stabilizer sub mount, it is far stronger. The 501 has 60hp at the crank and is more tractor than snap.

So the Scotts BRP sub mount you mean?

I bought that for my new fe350 since I had one on my Italian wr300 but the ergos were different and it was to tall for me on this new bike, I'm 5'10. So I'm going with a top mount and would sell that bottom mount for a reasonable price. Its been used for maybe 2hrs....by going top mount I pretty much need a whole new kit so I have no use for this and brp didn't seem interested in an exchange.

Ill be in touch. BRP says that it wont fit the billet Husky triples but obviously it fit yours. I think a scotts is a good idea. I liked my Motosportz one but the Scotts is more mobile if you know what I mean. Seems I change bikes often

Sorry Tinken, should have been more precise. I had a brp triple clamp and sub mount with stabilizer on my old bike that helped with the standing position.
Kind of generalized risers and sub mount.

501 sounds like the bike I'd be interested in. Does it handle the tight stuff well or is it made more for the open fast stuff?

No worries, I learned through experience. I'm 6'6 and I put a tremendous amount of torque on the bar clamps. I use the 1" sub mount and I use 116mm Flexx bars which raises the bars 2.5" total. Much more comfortable and strong. You probably could still use the Motosportz stabilizer, just slide it underneath.

Depends on the rider. You might want the FC450 for the tighter stuff.

The Husky billet triple seems pretty good so I'd most likely just do the submount. Another question about the 501 though. I am concerned about the lack of frame rub protection above the pegs. Looks like after one ride my boots contact to the frame will be rubbed down to bare metal. Due to the composite subframe and the way it mounts to the frame, there isn't any way to add a rub guard. I guess I could use some vinyl tape in there but it looks like they dropped the ball here. What is ZipTy doing to address this issue? I know you did something so spill the beans please.

As I do like that, I am also looking at just above the pegs. That area takes the hardest wear and it's just bare frame. What was KTM thinking? That area on my 2012 TE310 has a thick rub guard and is pretty beat up as well from 2 hard riding seasons. I fear this frame will be bare in one day. Where did you finf the blue Husky logo stick on tape?

Two of my riding buddies have last year's Berg FE501s, another has a FE450.
We ride technical single-track all the time, steep hills, tricky creek crossings etc, they cope fine.
One guy is tall, maybe 6'2", the other is shorter, like 5'9" ish, the shorter guy is the older & faster rider.

Both the 501 boys run Stegz Pegz to help grip the bike on steep hills under power.
You may have seen them before (Rubber knobs bottom of the side-plate)

Iv'e seen them before but they would do nothing to address the bare frame between the pegs and the sub frame mount. Looking for something to protect the exposed frame there. Mind boggling KTM sent these out like this. It may come down to retrofitting/chopping one that fits partially.

Yeah, they are for grip, not protection.
Surely someone makes protectors for them, you can get 'em for nearly every other bike .
