I bought my SM610 back when they first came out. It ran like crap as it was so lean stock. When I bought the JD jet kit, it was really for a 450/510 but JD gave me some suggestions. Well, it never really ever ran good. Did all the usual mods to the carb but still could never get it to run really good or start easily. When it did run I could never get the decel popping to a minimum. Has been uber sensitive to temp changes as well. Had the "Rumble Strip" issue on mine at 3K miles. Bought the parts and got that resolved. No other issues since then. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. I am out in the shed and really want to get this thing running well, or sell it. I love the bike and want to ride it more but just could never get it to run good. I only have 5500 miles on her! I mean I have a 07 KTM 525EXC that I dropped a jet kit in and that thing has been rock solid, so why not the 610? I was convinced the 41FCR is just not a good carb for this motor. So I call JD, talk to him about it and I get a new kit specifically made for the 610. Put it in and low and behold, the bike starts well, runs pretty darn good and I have the decel popping down to a very tolerable level. So now, I am back in love with a bike I have had for 7 years now. The carb'd 610 is a great bike. Runs 75mph all day and with my Seat Concepts done seat, is really comfortable. Looks like I might actually get 10K miles on it before I have owned it for 10 years!
Just sold my 08 te450 and am in the process of bringing my 07 TE610 back to life. It had been sitting for a year and a half waiting for a new cam chain. I had started the project, needed to get the flywheel puller and then my life changed dramatically. Forward that 1.5 yrs and I just got the new cam chain installed and starting to button back up. I too got the JD kit for the 450/510 when I first got the bike. Wondering if JD sent you just needles or you had to buy the whole kit? I'll call him, but saw this post and it's saturday. Carb was going on today, but maybe it's worth waiting... Was thinking of trying a Lectron for this (have one in my 144), but if they have it sorted, maybe just a needle will make a big difference.
No, no, no! It's still a piece of crap! Sell it to me cheap and get it out of your life forever. My SM610 has over 22k trouble-free miles on it and it's been rock solid. Er, uh, I mean they're all icky so do yourself a favor and sell your low-mileage one to me ASAP! My `07 SM610...best bike I've ever owned Eric loves loves loves his `06 TE610 he got with 600 miles on it.
I just rode my '06 SM610 180 miles to the Durty Dabbers DS rode the Hero's and all (until my clutch cable broke anyway) on worn TKC-80's then rode it back 180 miles on the slab home with no clutch. I own a ton of dirt bikes of all classes and while it is a step down from a real dirt bike and a real street bike it is not by much. A great all around DS bike. Capable off road and smooth on the road. Add some racing slicks and you can supermoto it too.
No doubt a good bike, that's why I held on to it for these years. R_Little, did you ride that bike at a Endurocross school last Oct in Pa? I was there and there was a guy with a NJ plate I thought there on his 610TE.
