Just bought a 2009 TE 250, need to learn more about the bike. The manual is difficult to read. It seems to have been written in Italian and poorly translated to English. I am trying to convert the Km/Hr to MPH on the computer - no luck.

I'm not sure how to convert the speedometer from km/hr to mph on a 2009.

On my 2006 these are the steps:
    1. There is only 1 button on the speedometer display
    2. Push that until it shows KPH on top, and KM on bottom (my engine has to be running for the unit to function).
    3. Then turn off the bike.
    4. Hold down the button on the display.
    5. Start engine while holding the button down - keep holding that butoon down for a full 3 seconds.
My guess would be you have a key and you would only need to turn the key on/off instead of actually starting the engine. The tricky part on my bike is that to start the engine, the clutch needs to be pulled while pushing the starter button & holing the display button down - I use a little bungy cord to hold the clutch lever in.

I'll move this over to the common topics because that display is used on more than 1 bike.

    From a general maintenance point of view, I strongly suggest you do the following;
ASAP regrease the swing arm, shock pivots and head bearings. The factory only gives them a lightish coating. Then repeat every 10 months (most schedule yearly). I have found this frequency to be excellent for longevity-still on original bearings for rear suspension, steering head and wheel bearings after over 4000 Kms and 4 years of bush riding)
Change oil every 300 to 500 kms-I do it every 3rd ride and change the oil filter every second oil change. I use a mid priced semi sunthetic oil-motul 5100 (10/50)
Regularly inspect and change out the air filter, a light coating is fine but if it is really dirty-clean it.I use motul filter oil
I run 2 stroke fuel in my petrol at 100:1 ie 90 cc to 9.2 litres (maxima fully synthetic). I firmly believe it helps cushion the valves, lubes the top ring and smoothes down the motor. There is no exhaust smoke, plug fouling (use an iridium plug)etc.
Every 2nd wash I check the spokes for tightness and wd40 the nipples.
Every wash I lube the chain-mostly to inhibit surface rust.
About 4 times a year I drop the carby bowl and clean out and take the side cover off the carby and clean and attend to cable trnsion the lube the cable from the throttle side down.
Take the wheels off about every 2 months and clean the axel, spacers, seals etc and repack with waterproof grease.
Regularly wd40 the electric circuits, battery terminal, all jubilee clips and bolts etc.

It sounds tedious but its not doing the dishes, its playing with your mistress and having some good thinking time.

The good thing about your 250 is that the bottom end is designed to carry the 450 and 510, so it is probably over engineered and will last for ever.
Good luck on your beast-they are a top machine.

Is this process for converting the same on a 2007 TE 510?

I would think so, but do not have a 2007 TE510 to test it. There were not many changes between the 2006 and 2007 bikes. At least compared to the massive changes to the 2008 bikes which came with efi.
