Finally... today I was able do my first real ride on my new bike (other than putting around the neighborhood). And... I AM IMPRESSED!

I rode at a local park (Metcalf Road in San Jose, CA for the locals) which is typical of the area here: hard pack with a layer of slippery gravel / sand on the fire roads and some gnarly single track in the manzanita brushes.

What I liked most about the bike is the handling, especially in the tight stuff: very flickable, sticks to the corners pretty well, respond nicely to body inputs. The engine has also more bottom end that I expected, allowing me to lug it when necessary. More top end that I'll ever need too

Suspensions: I haven't done anything beside setting the static sag in the back. I haven't even looked up the stock clicker settings in the manual. That's will be the focus for the next ride: reset the suspension to factory setting and go from there. I suspect I'll need stiffer springs too (I am on the heavy side unfortunately).

My main gripe is the tendency for the bike to flame out: low rpm, grab a handful (sometime not even that much) of throttle and... pop! Dead bike, a couple of time putting me on the ground. So I had to adapt my riding style trying to keep the rpm's a little higher than I usually would and using the clutch more.

Another issue is when the bike was hot, went back to the parking lot, took a 15mn rest, when restarting the bike it was gargling and coughing at low rpm. Felt like a two stroke running really rich.

    Some other comments:

Clutch is super easy and smooth (which help with my major gripe).

I need a grippier seat cover and my rear end appreciates the soft seat (my WRF seat is made of concrete!).

Bike is hard to grip with the knees when standing up forward (knee braces don't help, but that has also a lot to do with the shape of the gas tank which is wide up front and narrow at the seat junction so when try to squeeze mid way, the knees get pushed back).

The side stand is worst even.

Front brake is pretty powerful, a little touchy / grabby tho.

Rear brake seems to work on / off, but that might be me as I have always had a hard time with rear brakes when wearing big boots...

Ergonomics is pretty good for my size (5'10")

    I like the wide footpegs.

I don't like the on/off ignition switch on the handlebar. I'd much rather have the starter on one side of the handlebar and the kill switch on the other side.

That front light is just waiting to get slammed by a branch! Need to find an alternative.

    Dennis,

I assume your bike is powered up?

Airfilter plug out and no O2 sensor in the header?
Plug out of the exhaust tip and no CAT?

What color is your injector, green or yellow?

You need I-beat to adjust the TPS and the CO mixture settings.

102.3% on the TPS at WFO and the CO's need to be around 105-110 depending on whether you run the SA or not.

You may also need a temp sensor replaced for the blubbering after cool down. tYou should have a white sensor not black.

In the interim turn up the idle to abut 2500 to ward off the pop stall blues.

I have a 2010 TE250 with the stock yellow injector and it runs perfect.

    Get I-beat.

    Where are you?

The bike has been "cleaned up" (O2 sensor, cat converter, etc...) removed. It does not have the 12 holes injector or the TXC ECU (looking for these... everyone is out of the ECU, any lead on that would be greatly appreciated).

I have downloaded iBeat, got the ODB2 cables, just waiting for the connector to arrive from China and then I need to find a laptop with a 32 bits OS...

Do you have a part number for the right temperature sensor?

I am in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area. 'bout you?

After some research looks like the part number for the new temperature sensor is 8000H3649. Can anyone confirm? Do I need to order the gasket / o-ring with it or does it come with them?

Thanks again for all the help!

I'm in NJ pretty far away.

Wait until I-beat comes and then reach out.

You will need I-beat even if you get the txc ECU.

Hey, got my iBeat setup... made the custom cable and was able to connect to the bike (the hardest was to get an computer setup with the right OS... ended going the VirtualBox VM route with Windows XP all running on my Macbook!).

I've reset the TPS (just in case!) but now I need some advice on how to best tune the bike, so any advice would be great!

The bike runs pretty good, the only two things I've noticed are:

1 - After running for a while, if the bike sits off, cooling off for 15 mn, then when I restart it feels like the sparkplug is "fouled" (like the old two strokes that needed a few wide open throttle jabs to "clear up"). Similar here, and a few wack at the throttle running the RPM high will clear things up. But it's really annoying.

2 - When the throttle is cracked open fast from idle it bogs down and sometime dies. Doesn't seen to happen while riding tho (I guess it's because it never really idles when I ride :-o)

Otherwise, it's been a pretty fantastic bike so far (well, it's a pain to work on, but that seems to be the norm with any modern bike - I could take the engine out my my 1992 Husaberg in less than 10 minutes, not to mention that there is more wiring on that Husky than in my whole house, but I digress!).

    Happy trails

    Denis
