• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

First ride on my WR300

I'll repeat a little bit about myself from the intro thread. I took a 20+ year break from bikes. I started getting the itch about 3 years ago to get another bike. Finally gave into the urge a few months ago and bought a cheap 93 KLX650R to get my feet wet and to see if I wanted to get back into it, without spending a bunch of cash. Well, based on the fact that I bought a new WR300, you know how that turned out. I was originally looking at getting a KTM 300, but stumbled on the WR in some searches. I made my decision without seeing the bike in person or sitting on one. I bought a leftover 2011 from Superbike Shop in Evansville, IN. They were great to deal with and the price was right. The bike already had a Pro Circuit pipe and silencer installed. It was a little over 500 miles round trip to pick it up.

I took it for a ride at an off road park, but it is mostly geared toward rock crawlers. It was slippery from a rain the night before. I dropped it twice, both times going up hill. I grew up in south FL and it was flat as a board and don't have any experience with going up or down hill. Especially when it is slippery clay with ruts from Jeeps. Man, I love this thing. Being a big guy, 6'2" 240, it fits perfect. Going from the Kawi to the Husky, is like going from a 73 Chrysler New Yorker to a Ferrari. Just the fact that it starts on the first kick is major improvement. I need to find some places to ride here in southern TN and northern AL and get in shape.

Awesome bike, and and awesome tow rig!! The 300 rocks!.... Good job. Everyone has a KTM 300. You made a good choice!

The 300 & 250 are great bikes ... I'm still hoping I can get one in the future to ride and finish off my riding career in life with ....

I took about ~20 yrs off from riding also and on return, I tried to ride as I did as a teenager ... Ended up with a crushed vertebra in my back ...So the word is be a little patient with the riding for the first 6 months at least ... A 300 is a bad-a$$ engine ...

Ride safe and enjoy the good times ...

I bought a WR250 after a 30 year lay off and I grew up riding in the desert/prairie of southern Colorado. Now I'm in the Ozarks of MO and riding rocks trees tree roots and logs so it's like starting over as a beginner. You picked the right bike for a big guy. I try to have fun and not let my mind write checks that my body can't cash.

I grew up riding in south Florida and it was sugar sand. I also feel like a total squid riding through the trees, woods with the roots and rocks.
