Just changed my oil on the 630 and was draining my oil from my drain pan to the oil container and found the washer for the large hex bolt drain plug. really don't want to have to take the bolt out again and effectively do another oil change. Is it ok to just wait until my next schedule oil change to replace the washer?
Yeah, it's OK to just wait til the next oil change. It might weep a little bit but it's better than wasting all that new oil. Don't ask me how I know
You could just drain it into a clean container and put it back in. I found my washer in the pan after my first change. Pulling the plug, putting the washer on and getting it back in only cost my half a quart.
Been there done that. Tape off or plug your oil funnel and set it within reach. Put the drain pan under the bike, unscrew the plug until just before it starts to leak, grab the funnel, take out the plug and very quickly jam the funnel in the hole. Then with one hand put the washer back on the plug, remove the funnel and replace with the plug. If you're quick you'll lose at most a few ounces of oil. Don't forget to wear gloves.
I did the exact same thing! I managed to get the plug out, washer on and plug back in with only about 3-4oz of oil out. Topped off and all was good. BTW -- it did weep oil for the two days it took me to realize the washer was in the drain pan.
And next time you change the oil you can put some sort of a screen or an old torn piece of T shirt over the oil pan to catch anything you'll need to put back on the bike
I did exactly this but the sollution is simple. Just get someone to kneel down underneath the bike with you. Get you helper to have his finger ready underneath the drain plug. As you losen and pull the drain plug out, get hour helper to put his finger over the drain plug hole and hold it there while you then slip the washer on the drain plug and as your helper removes his finger from the hole you slip in the drain plug back in. Thats what I did and lost only a few drops of oil in the process. Good luck
If not leaking, leave till next oil change. If leaking, lay bike down on it's side. All the oil will drain away from the drain plug and you can remove it without losing any.
