can anyone out there tell me with certianty the stock fork and shock spring rates in a 2011 te 630.we are trying to set a bike up for a 260 pound rider.thanx, dan
Rear is 6.4 KG/MM and front is 0.511 KG/MM. I weigh 190 lb and set mine up with 0.46 front and 5.4 rear and added the front adjustable compression dampers. Worked out real well for me!
thanx for the info willie and bikesdp.the rates for the springs is more than i would have expected.the parts list states 6.4 for the shock but i dont put 100% faith in specs from Husqvarna.they dont give any spec for the fork springs.with this bike being a little shorter than other huskys that used 45 mm springs how does one order the right springs?if a guy is a casual rider what is the right rate for a 260 pounder?ithanx, dan
According to the racetech spring rate calculator the correct springs for a 260lb rider are .511 and 6. Seems like the 630, as is most dualsports is sprung for a rider and a passenger. The front springs are standard length 45mm Marz. and the rear is a standard Sachs spring. The front compression damping is extremely stiff and needs revalving or the pre 2008 compression adjusters.
Hi Dan, Call Cliff at RPS in Shingle Springs. I am not sure of the spring rates, but he set up my 610 when I was a fat boy packing away more than a few quarter pounders in the gullet. It worked way better than when I had it stock. There is a local guy up here, LTR who may know as well.
I am curious as to where you obtained the compression adjusters for the forks and how difficult are they to install? Thanks!
Bought them from LTR racing. I believe they are the stock adjusters (#8000A7575) for 07 and older TE610's. Easy to change. Unscrew fixed compression unit from bottom of fork, drain out all the oil, transfer shim stack from fixed to adjustable unit and reinstall, remove top fork nut and add required amount of 5 W fork oil. Not sure of amounts but can supply amounts or measurements if you need them. When I drained the oil it was slubby even though there was only 2000km on bike. Suspect this to be assembly grease that mixed with the oil. Originally wanted to send the forks out for revalving but shipping costs were prohibitive. Softer springs and adjustable compression dampers made a big improvement to ride and handling!
I am thinking of upgrading my TE 630 forks with the compression valve adjusters and the 610 spring spacer (for increased travel). I noticed the '07 TE compression valve's have different part number then the newer TE 610/630's. In the parts catalogs for the '08 TE 610 and '11 TE 630 it shows the same part numbers for the optional compression valves (8000B1657). I will be wanting to source the newer part number.
Old thread but was curious if you ever purchased the compression adjusters for your 630 and which part number you went with? Also your source for purchase?
Pretty sure the p/n you refereneced is not an optional valve but the stock fixed compression valve. If you want to source adjustable compression valves you must go 2007 or older. Reference willie's post above. _
I'm curious about this too, cost to do it, what it takes. When I ride my 630 like a dirtbike it bottoms the forks regularly. Never happened 'till I actually rode as a dirtbike. As a dualsport it was just fine. If the fronts are a pretty stiff spring then maybe it just needs more bottoming resistance. Is that what the adjustable damping units do? The rear is a little bouncy, but just turned up the damping a bit and seems to be fine. I know the spring is a little too stiff for my 175lbs, but I occasionally load on 75lbs of camping gear and gas on the back. It's fine then. But of course I'm not riding it hard then. I need to ask Johngil what was done to his. He rides the crap out of his.
CJ- You might want to just add some fork oil to your fork and firm up the last bit of your fork travel. I added 5mls at a time until it stopped bottoming as much. 5 ml syringe through the bleeder screw hole. LTR said I could add up to 40ml safely but that it can firm up quick. Baby steps. Otherwise I'd send them away for the full treatment. Good luck.
The adjusters make a huge difference to the front compression damping. The mid adjustment is about the same as stock fixed so you can go softer or harder as you wish.
