Fuel Pump - Different Issue

I did a search and did not see this issue so sorry if this has been discussed.

I pulled my cracked and leaking IMS tank off my 09 TE510 tonight.. I know imagine that..

I pulled the fuel pump so that I could put it back into the stock tank and found this..



I assume that this is the low fuel sensor and I guess it has been bouncing around in the tank for some about of time.

Anyone seen this? Do I really need a low fuel sensor? Can I just take it loose and run without it?

I am going to take it down to MotoForza on Tuesday and see if it can be repaired or replaced under warranty but I am not going to hold my breath.

I've seen that same thing mentioned on the internet before. You're not the first. The bike won't run any different if you just strap it someplace out of the way. Personally I like the low fuel sensor and wouldn't want to give it up, but that's a personal choice.

The thing that concerns me is that wire that is disconnected. It was soldered to the body of the sensor so I assume it is a ground wire or something. Not sure how to reattach. I am running a clear 3 gallon tank so the fuel light is not a necessity for me.

Yup...seen that too. I had the same issue on my '08. the only difference is my sensor hadn't come off yet (but it was close). Both wires were separated from my sensor. Having run out of fuel 3x now on my bike due to the idiot light not working and the idiot (me) not paying attention to the mileage, I would say solder it back up and zip tie the wires firmly.

Edit: I'm gonna double check mine tonight when I have the tank off and drained.

if you don't use the fuel light- I'd just zip tie it all in place to worry about for another day.

Thanks guys.. I soldered the wire back on and safety wired it in place so it should be good to go. Thanks for the help and info.
