I have popped off 2 (and lost) of those trick aluminum E-Line vents in the past six months, and am looking to go with a tube type vent set up again anyone have suggestions for a nice check valve (tank vacuum breather) type tube set up. thx R
I know what you mean. I lost one on the desert dash this year. I super glued my new one one and am carrying a spare in my pack. Ken
Ya Mine came off my 510 on a hill climb gone wrong. Second attempted flipped the bike in the same spot and found it lay'n on the ground. Shoulda bought a lotto ticket that day. I've Gooped my on now and carry a piece of vent line in my tool pouch just in case.
I safety wired mine on after loosing my oh-so-cool mini piston vent. A little tough with so little protrusion.
The 1st was epoxied and safety wired, came off in H&H round one, I grabbed it from my lap put it into my bar pad cover, but it fell out. 2nd was epoxied and safety wired........my kids bike fell over on the trailer while driving and the handguard stripped it off the gas cap!!! Had a blu one on my 06TE450 (never lost it) must be these darn red ones!! from now on I am going the hose route. Those things look trick and perform well,,when I can keep them on the bike!!! I have an ugly blue hose on the cap now, and somewhere I have seen check valve equipped pre fabbed hoses in various color combos, anyone know a brand? thanks R
Having the same issue. Just lost my second one. How should I attach them, or should I just go back to the vent hose? -Blake
I've lost a bunch of them over the years and found that they seem to stay on the longest when I use regular vent hose and not the little stiff pieces they send with the vents. I also use a dab of super glue on the cap nipple before I slide it on.
I just run vent hoses now- a buddy gave me one of those vent dudads and I lost it the first day- my brother's didn't work right and it built up pressure and made his carb into a fuel injected bike- didn't run too well. He popped that off and the tank exhaled. I used to have a little check/vent on one of my bikes that never gave me issues- I think it was accerbis- its made to run with full length hose- and has a small arrow on it- it came with a Clark tank. Those things are clean looking and popular- I just never caught on I guess.
just run a vent hose like it came stock. If you are worried about it washing out your bearings, get an extra long piece, thread it all the way through the steering stem and cut it at the bottom of the steering stem. Problem solved.
I just keep using all the free check valve vent hoses I find on the trails. The red or blue anodized alum ones are really easy to spot
I've lost a few of those little vent caps myself. Like you guys I started safety wiring them on but that didn't work either. I gave up and went to just a tube with the "free-flow" one-way vents in the middle. I copied KTM and cut a 1/4" peice of the vent line off the end and put it over the end that slides onto the cap nipple. It never comes off unless I pull it off.
