I just purchased a 2009 TE310 with 500 miles. It was a demo bike that I bought thru a dealership. The dealer had removed the throttle stop and installed the unrestricted air filter cage. However, the O2 sensor and the Cat converter were never taken off. They also tweaked the EFI setting to make it run better.

Let me first say.. the bike runs Great! I had to increase the idle speed up from 1600 to about 1750 to stop the occasional pops and flame-outs just off idle. But now, the bike's performance is absolutely awesome! The power is great at all RPMs. The throttle is smooth and responsive. I'm really happy that I bought this bike.

Here's my question... Will removing the O2 sensor & cat converter and installing the Lambda sensor connector really make a big improvement in power? I know that I will need to take it to the dealership to have the EFI remapped. But I'm curious what other people think.... Will it really be worth it? Will it give me a noticeable seat-of-the-pants power gain?

my 450 ran much better with them removed.
it was a very noticeable difference for me.

You may need a little tweaking. IIRC (this is on the 08) the bike will run on a "race map" if the O2 sensor and connector are installed. This can be adjusted with iBeat at 3 points (for 09's, only one for 08's) and the TPS set but it may not need it.

A cheap thing all in all to change those two items. Do it and see what you think.

Mine was pretty close after powerup. George @ Uptite did the setup and powerup.

ETA the mileage will go down some, almost certainly.

I have almost the exact same setup on my 310. I did take out the cat convertor. The bike has all the power I need and it gets about 33 MPG. I'm hearing with the o2 sensor out, guys are getting low 20's MPG. Not worth it to me, but if you do try it, let us know what you think.

The first change I made after my first ride was to install a 14t counter sprocket. (Again, this is an '09 TE310.) I'm planning to ride mostly fire roads and jeep trails near my house. Depending on which way I go, I've got anywhere from 2 to 8 miles of asphalt to traverse before I hit dirt. I really wanted to be able to cruise down the road at speeds up to 55mph. The 14t gave me that ability. However, I definitely noticed that some of the grunt that I had with the stock 13t counter sprocket was gone. Next up, I pulled the O2 sensor which was the final step for me to go into "full power" mode. I took the bike out for another ride and, Oh Yeah! The grunt that was there previously was back, plus some. If you're gearing your 310 for more top speed, I'd absolutely recommend Full Power mode. What a difference!

I took the TE310 out for a 60 mile ride today. I'm not sure what my gas mileage was before removing the 02 sensor. But today, in full power mode, I got around 40mpg. A good 15 miles of the ride was cruising on asphalt at around 50mph. Most of the ride was 2nd & 3th gear twisty jeep trails plus stretches of 4th & 5th gear fire roads . I'm sure the 14t counter sprocket helps with the gas mileage. BTW - At 50mph I'm turning right around 6900RPMs.

Did you do any tuning with i-Beat after removing the o2 sensor?

No. I didn't reprogram the EFI. They way the bike is running right now, there's no need.

Before removing the senor the bike would surge a little at certain RPMs. It was really only noticeable when cruising on the street. With the O2 sensor removed, no more surging. Also, before removing the sensor the bike would backfire out the tailpipe way too much when slowing down or descending. Not any more.

I suspect that the dealership had removed the O2 sensor when the bike was being used as a demo. They told me that they hadn't removed it but, I'm fairly certain they had. If they used iBeat on it previously, maybe the settings are still in there? I really don't know...

Interesting. Guess I'll have to try it just out of curiosity. I can't believe you are getting 40 MPG in this mode. Thanks for the info.

All those figures would typically describe my 08 TE 250, also with a 14T.

Yep, around 40 MPG in Full Power mode. '09 TE310 w/14t counter sprocket. I'm no madman with the throttle... Your results may vary.

Just put mine in full power up and I agree with everything posted. Most noticeable was the smoothness and less engine braking. Not a big increase in power, but it really runs NICE! Glad I tried it. Quite sure it's running cooler too. I installed the mode switch for 'slippery' conditions. Not a big difference that I could tell in a limited test,,,maybe less snap down low, which would make sense. Now on to the mileage testing. Thanks for the input...

    09 te310 pu

Went riding today in full Power Up mode. The bike runs much smoother, no backfire, less engine braking, no slow speed flame outs and best of all, 30 MPG running 12/48 gearing! Man, this is a fun little bike!! Even for an old fart like me. I'll put a plug in also for the 'air cells' on the front forks. I'm riding rocky N.E. terrain and had a hard time holding back from riding too far over my head and risking doing damage to my body. I'm a happy camper and love my little 310.. :D

I have an 09 te 250, i asked the dealer to install the pu kit. When i went to pick up the bike they said they accidently ordered the 08 kit. They took off the throttle stop and cat converter. They also left me the smaller break light/ license plate mounting repacement, which i havent installed yet. They didnt charge me for it so I didnt say I didnt complain. I too am satisfied with the current performance, but now wonder if i should complete the power up? I dont want to take it back to the dealer (500 mi.) and would rather spend the time on the bike, but everybody says what a difference.

The '08s needed to order a power-up kit that included a new exhaust can, the O2 sensor disable, and the smaller brake light. The '09s came with all the O2 sensor disable stuff in the box so there is nothing to buy. You should have gotten all that when you bought the bike. The difference is that on the '09 TE the cat is removable so you don't need/get a new exhaust can and the '09 also came with a very restrictive air filter frame as well as a normal one.

Hope that was clear enough. If you bought a new bike and didn't get all those parts, you should be complaining I think. And you don't normally need a dealer to install these parts.

Sorry 1 more question. Do you think the small brake light kit that i recieved is from the 08 pu kit or the 09? Will it work on the 09 if its from the 08 kit?
