Hi, is it a very common problem that the gaugecluster gets wet inside? i cant see all letters and the backlighting is gone... probably damaged by humidity. Is it just a waste of money to buy a new one or should i try to get it opened and repaired, maybe try to get it better sealed too? What do you think? has anyone tried to open it?
I would try and dry it gently. Maybe a hair dryer in fan only, or a table fan blowing on it. Oh I just remembered a trick for cell phones, take the speedo and place it in a bag of rice. The rice will pull the moisture out.
i have tried to dry it, it has been inside for 5 days and i tried to dry it a couple of times with a hair dryer. the moisture is gone but backlighting is gone. and some of the text
I have thinking of the trailtech but it feels a little bit sad when they cant make a "plug n play". you have to put some other sensors on it and so on... maybe i have to try a new one first, it would just be good to know if this is a very common problem or if its just some of the gauges that are toast.. if its just a waste of money to try a new one..
I've not heard of gauge death due to failure to seal. Most of the gauge deaths I think were due to vibes and being mounted on that little stock plate. I put my in a billet protector (HDB) and haven't had a failure. Just my opinion and no science to back it, especially since the 18K 610 I just got is stock mounted and works fine.......
IMO the biggest killer is the voltage regulator. For some reason they are set to over charge and are non adjustable. The one that came on my 07 was putting out over 15 volts and even at idle with the lights on was very close to 15. Over charging is also hard on batteries.
I've heard of them failing before (630's) when having moisture in them and being throw-aways most of the moisture is brought about when they wash the bike, get water all over the engine, warm the engine up and a whole heap of fog rises up directly into the gauge from the back. Have a search for this, I'm sure it's in a thread here.
Thanks for answers, i saw i have forgot to say that i have a 630... I dont know where to put it or how to protect it from the water... Sad when they cant make a gauge thats waterproof.
Mine (630) had the same problem. I took it apart and found that it is not repairable. Of course you lose your total mileage when you put a new one on. They are NOT waterproof.
hehe, i asked a husky dealer here and he told me that the mileage will be the same if i change it... but i cant understand where it would store that data.. i think the dealer doesent know what hes talking about
