Hi guys, After some times looking for a DS bike I'm about to buy a new 2011 TE 630. Local dealer here in Jakarta, Indonesia still have a leftover, new 2011 on their show room and sells it a discount. I've never done any kind of off-road riding, not an off-roader. I currently ride a 2012 Monster 795 which is my commuter and want to buy another bike which can be used for commuting too.. but mostly to be used for weekend ride or long ride where I ride to those places with bad road condition.. neglected and unmaintain road... roads with really really bad condition that we have plenty of here. And definitely try some light off road riding cause I want to learn to ride off road. Although this bike is new, it's a 2 years old bike that has been sitting there for I don't how long... so is there any particular things that I have to look out for, inspect or replace.. or things that I should ask the dealer to check, replace or service? If they started the bike at least somewhat periodically (even for a few test rides) I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

VERY rare and reliable bike. Handles extremely well for heavy bike. If I was in a 3rd world country, would be my first choice for a primary bike. I have several hard core off road bikes, and I consider this my street bike, but it does fine in the dirt.. but I am a hard core dirt rider, so for me to like this bike in the dirt is something.. I love my 630
Bob, THE best upgrade for the bike is the following: a powerup kit which is just a plug that plugs into the oxygen sensor harness fooling the ecu into thinking the o2 sensor is there. And an ARROW exhaust kit which comes with a finely tuned ECU with efi settings richened up and spark timing advanced perfectly to make this bike roar to life.. pretty much all you need are those two for POWER... and I keep my bike looking stock as possible.. just fast as possible he he.. hope you enjoy the bike.. plz post pics when you get it
Just adhere to the servicing schedule and all will be fine. I still love the idea of an alloy bash plate proper hand guards and radiator guards. Put in an iridiun plug. Also put in a cap of 2 stroke oil in with each refuel-keeps top end lubed, cushoins the valve seats, and believe it or not also acts as a fuel stabiliser. Wont smoke or foul plugs at that ratio ie 150:1. Enjoy your great ride.
Thank you guys. I paid it this morning and the bike will be delivered tomorrow The dealer told me that they will do the powerup today. They don't call it powerup though ... and at first they didn't know what I meant when I said "power up" They it call something else which means getting rid of euro emission. They also have Arrow in stock, but I guess I'll wait a few months before I buy the Arrow exhaust, at the moment I'm kinda low in cash... I also just ordered handguards from barkbusters. I considered HDB guards but they're more expensive than barkbusters'. I thought about getting a bash plate too, but I decided to get it later when I start to ride off road. Besides, the bike registeration will take about three weeks to a month and until it's registered and gets a plate, I can only ride the bike in the neighborhood.
A MONTH for bike reg? Oh yay ! You are going to have a very special bike. Just the other night my friend and I were riding to our local jetty for surfcasting so I chose the 630 for comfort and strapped the surfcasting rod to the rack and off we went. He drives a fast crf450R street registered and geared for street thing is FAST so he is feeling confident because I am on my "slow" bike and begins teasing me riding like a fool etc.. you know passing me again and again and again.. egging me on.. finally after what seemed like an eternity of this.. on the trip home, I had had enough haha.. and let him have a little te-630 whoop-ass.. and we lined up.. got ready.. and both hit the throttle and ended up 1/4 mile down the road.. 103 mph gps.. after we stopped all he said was "man.. thats a fast bike"
Hi Bob...I'm the browneye guy on ADV. Congrats on the bike, you'll love it. Be sure to post a pic of your smiling mug with the bike. You don't need the arrow exhaust. I'm about 6K miles on the stock system that was gutted and de-catted, no ecu tune. There's a thread on the site here if you're interested. An aftermarket can is a nice option but totally unnecessary. Stock tune is a bit lean above 6-grand but I don't ride it like that anyway. It's been great. Regular handguards are fine too, barkbusters are fine, or the CYCRA Pro-Bends are about $125 and work great. Any of the skids are fine, if you can get one from Hyde Racing they are quiet, light, and durable. Hyde can be hard to deal with, but may have one in stock they can ship. Theirs is ABS plastic, a good option. TCI products has a skid too, that's what I run on mine since I was their prototype bike for product development. You do need something if you ride in rocks, I've already demolished one and would have demolished my motor had it not been there. They also have the windscreen brackets that work really well for a piece of lexan for a short windshield - gets air pressure off your chest for hiway riding. May or may not be applicable for you. We end up doing some 70mph hiway running and it makes a huge difference for me. You don't need to change the sparkplug either, the stock one is good for 6K miles. Change the oil right away, like 3-500 miles, the filter and oil again sooner rather than later, check the screens for metal debris and gasket/sealant debris. They should stay pretty clean. The right side cover has a re-usable gasket to gain access to the other screen. I woudn't worry about that one 'till a thousand miles or so. They should remain clear unless there's something wrong going on inside your motor. Good luck and enjoy!

I plan to do a long ride after the registeration is completed, to break in the engine and find out how the bike performs (the dealer had done the powerup), how it handles, if it's comfortable on a long ride, and go from there. BTW, I installed the mirrors last night and man... those mirrors are really tall
Mirrors you can actually see something out of! About the only thing worth replacing them with are these: http://www.doubletakemirror.com/ They run about $80 a pair here.
