Picked up the FE501 yesterday, now what must haves do I need? Does the oil filter need to be the stainless version with the Mobil 1 0 - 40 oil as well, or was that just for the 2014? How bout radiator braces, who's got the best one? Super excited, moving up from a 250f. Expecting a big eye opener. Manual says to change oil after 1st hour, then every 15 hours after that. Think I'll stick with that plan. Plan to do the break in real nice and slow like Tinken suggests. Any other ideas? Thanks ahead of time. W

Not much to do really. It's smooth and got plenty of go. if you need more replace the air filter carrier with a 2 stroke one (no gauze) I posted the part number in the cheap tip tread.
Depending on how you ride it get the suspension setup properly or tuned if needed.
To run in I did go a bit easy on it in the beginning as it does feels really tight, goes like mad now.
Didn't bother with the stainless filter, just used genuine one and proper oil, like they suggest here.

    Go out and ride it!

What map is loaded on the "S" version?

Re-gear it because that 15/45 is made for cruising the freeway at 75mph. 13/45 fits with stock chain.

Set the rear sag per the manual ~ 105MM

Congrats! You will love the bike. I chose to go with a PC racing stainless filter and 0-40 Mobil 1 after the second oil change. I changed mine at 1 hour and a good amount of junk came out. I changed it again at 4 hours with very little crap and then after 15 from there on out. Easy oil changes on this bike so no excuses to do it often IMO. Your bike will run hot for the first 10 hours or so but that is normal for this bike. It will get better with time. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. Rode for the first time today. About an hour ride time. Wasn't quite what I expected. Thought this thing would rip my arms off, instead it wasn't that much different than my 250f. Of course I was staying low in the RPM's. I was barely tapping into the potential of this thing. No doubt the arm ripping power is all in the wrist. Buttery smooth to ride. I don't think there was a wrong gear to be in for the gravy ride I was taking. I think I am gonna love this scooter. A few more hours of babying it, and then its gonna be party on.

13/48 and 14/48 fits stock chain too. You can also flip the chain blocks to get more room.

I wouldn't waste any time getting the radiator braces. I used the steel ones out of the ktm power parts catalog. They're not the lightest ones out there, but they are tough and easy to install. I'm also running a PC stainless filter and the 0-40 oil with good results. Coming from a 250f, you are in for a bad ass ride. The 501 is a great bike out of the box.

Might also want to take a look at our new fuel filters. We clogged over twenty fuel injectors last year and would have not finished Tecate this year if it weren't for our 10 micron fuel filter stopping the pemex dirty fuel.

I have been making a list and checking it at least a 100 times. The sharkfin is on my radar too. Thinking about getting the front rotor guard from motorsports along with a steering damper. Speaking of the sharkfin, what is the small axle? It says 13-15 husbands, so I assume it's the right one. Did the first oil change today. A little bit of filings on the magnet. The big screen had some metal too. The oil was definitely contaminated. Cleaned screens and changed filter too. As much metal that was in that oil, I think that the filter and oil will get changed in 3-4 more hours. Seriously thinking about the as filter and 0w-40w oil. Which part # is it on the Zipty site. I am an Amsoil dealer so that brand of oil is hard for me to swallow. My oil is 10w-40, so I think that would be fine. They have their warranty too. Thanks again for all the responses.

Trying to locate the ss filter on the Zipty site. Is PC#155 the wrong number? Thought I read somewhere that was the right one. Maybe #167? Oh, and a correction on the previous post, 13-15 Husqvarna, not husbands.

    Are these the filters:http://www.ziptyracing.com/quick-disconnect-fuel-filter/
Are the internals replaceable/cleanable or do you replace the entire unit?
Do they go in at the quick disconnect or do you splice into the fuel line?

I'm with you there. I was expecting WAY more after hearing all the KTM nuts proclaim 'It'll wheelie in every gear'. I was a bit dissapointed at first, but I've come to realize its got plenty of juice for whatever I need, I'm not deal tired at the end of the day and the motor should last forever in this mild state. At least, I hope it does.

 Huh? It has more go than that! You sure the dealer took all the restrictors out? When it comes out of the the crate it has one restreictor in the exhaust, 2 in the airfilter and you can replace the gauze type filter holder with a 2 stroke one for even more go.
Don't know what map it has but after removing all that stuff on mine ( I got it in the crate and assembled myself) and the standard Australian map it goes like stink!

Drop that front 15 to a 13 and then see how the performance changes. The factory 15/45 is for cruising at 80 mph.

Also as I understand it, the "S" version has mapping that can not be altered (similar to the 500 EXC) but you can manipulate the TPS setting and get some improved performance after gutting the factory nossler on the end of the can.

I have no problem to wheelie my 501 in 5th gear with the factory 13/50 gear set and Euro fuel map.

I couldn't even imagine 15/45, that would be like riding my Super Tenere... I'm at 13/49 and can hit triple digits with more to spare. Wheelies are almost done through ESP:D I ended up installing a blue Husaberg supersprox 49 I found on Ebay for $50 and I decided to replace the OEM aluminum 50T rear before the 60 hp engine destroyed it. Otherwise I was happy with the 13/50 combo.

I replaced mine with a Q4 but Looking over the stock pipe I dont see a nossler (what is a nossler?)? In fact I can see straight though the stock pipe. It is barely heavier than the FMF as well. I was expecting something like my 449 had, A big ole cat that weighed 5 pounds, this is not the case on my 350S

the 500 and 501 are smooth power monsters. I like that. Good power but not beating you up all day. These feel like a hard running KTM350 to me.
