I'd like to hear opinions from guys who have used a GPS on their dirt bike. What units have you had sucess with.... durable easy to use ect. Also, how'd you mount it? I'm thinking of riding the LA-to-Barstow-to-Vegas dual sport in November and while they suggest simply using their roll chart, ( mandatory), I might add a GPS. Never used one on a bike. Thanks, Dave in Delaware
Hey Dave, Just a friendly reminder about the search bar at the top. I typed in GPS and got quite a few hits. Might be worth some back reading never know.
Take a peep at this purpose built for a bike unit... http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/cooool-trailtech-gps-in-stock-at-motosportz.16349/ if not this unit I recommend the Garmin 60CX and a ram mount.
I often start threads with, " I did a search, but.......". This time I didn't, but yes, I did search. I entered: GPS...., got, "too short to search". Then: mount GPS and got one hit. A thread from BRP about a mount he's working on for a Garmon60CSX with 40MM bolthole spacing. (Maybe I need more search training). I didn't mention I'm using a TrailTech Vapor now on my te450 mounted in the bullet proof case, replaced stock speedo. While their new "all-in-one" looks nice if it displays any data in small fonts as my Vapor does I can't see it and so it's useless. ( Well not useless, but I'm not about to ride with reading glasses under my goggles.) I can see everything on the Garman I have used in the car but yes, it's a 4.5" color display. Is that what everbody else is using on dirtbikes? I doubt I'll use a ram mount .... (thinking I'd make something that tucks in behind the TrailTech thats cushioned. Whats everbody else using? Dave
Harmon 60Csx and a ram mount have worked OK. There's a newer 60C model available but you'll have to decide if it's worth the extra $$. 60Csx is reduced in price right now
