http://www.casporttouring.com/cst/motorcycle/GRIPPUP/GPSMALL.html Because my hands cramp up easily I've added an additional set of grips on top of stock grips, the Grip Puppies seem like a much more elegant solution to me. I will eventually order a set and try them out, but wanted to let others know. For the record, the thickness of the additional set of grips I used was about 0.2", which was actually a bit too thick. The Grip Puppies are listed as 0.15" which will hopefully be about right.
Grip puppies do add a bit, though the best thing is they reduce vibrations, not a lot of money to try out and worth it last a while.
I'de imagine one could use a wrap of bicycle bar tape too as there are many thicknesses to customize.
I just got some of these for my street ride and they rule: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/49/61/188/1005/-/-/198780/ They're fatter than most dirtbike grips and they feel awesome. These along with some of those grip puppies might be the ticket.
Bicycle bar tape works great, I've been using it for over a year now, I use stainless wire to secure the ends and then I put some pieces of bicycle inner tube on top of the wire.
I also wear Franklin ShokSorb batting gloves, they are padded in the palm area and add some more thickness to my grip area. http://www.baseballsavings.com/cust...ferralID=71bcd467-c92c-11e2-a969-001b2166c2c0 A patented pre-curving process assures that every single pair matches the anatomical intricacies of your hand. This reduces “tenting” and uncomfortable wrinkles across the palm and throughout the back of the hand. The glove is literally designed and shaped as a second skin that curves and adapts perfectly to the shape of your hand.
I have large hands so I have always put a large number of wraps of black electrical tape under my grips. Helps with arm pump too. My latest favorite combo is the TAG rebound grips with a few layers of tape underneath. The grips are larger to start with. My size 11 hands like them. Cam.
I really like my grip puppies. I've got fairly big hands and they reduce fatigue a lot. One of the cheapest & best add-ons to be had.
Thanks. I really have not heard anything about them until I randomly found a link to them on the web yesterday.
I feel like a complete idiot. This place is in Hercules, CA and they seem to have a retail shop as per their home page. http://www.casporttouring.com I could have just ridden over instead of ordering them online! Regardless, the grip puppies are on in the mail... I will visit their retail store at some point.
I dunno....riding in the Bay Area traffic might have changed your mind, but you know the neighborhood better than I do.
Bar end weights work. I swapped bars on my street bike and haven't re-tapped the bars to accept the factory weights and I am sorely missing them. They make a huge difference with the vibrations. You can find them MUCH cheaper on ebay though. FYI
Ok, I've used them for a while and here is what I think, keep in mind the goal was to have physically larger grips because holding my hands around normal size grips gets painful for me after a short time - personal issue that I've seem to have developed over time. These comments are specific to my TR650, which of course is much different than other bikes: Yes - they are larger in diameter, which is good for me. Yes - they reduce what little vibration I have on my TR650 which is a really smooth bike to begin with, and also has bar ends. On road general comment - really nice regardless of what gloves I am wearing Off road: not sure. Seems to depend on what gloves I am wearing. With Mechanix gloves which are already grippy, heat seems to be generated a bit too much. With my Thor MX gloves that I bought many years ago with leather palms, no problem. On road specific comment - and this will sound incredibly lame/silly/weird - they are incredibly helpful in high cross winds. I loathe wind, heights (bridges), and traffic. These grip puppies improved my riding in those, and all other conditions by at least 10x.
I have recently started to use the liners from risk racing (Off road only for me). There are a few things I really like about them...you get to keep the same grips as before, and I like my 1/2 waffles. Blisters are a non issue. Vibration gets dampened. Wet gloves are no big deal, no need to swap during an enduro. they make the grip feel bigger. They are cheap and so far I have 4 rides on one set and they still look like new. The only down side so far...it takes a few extra seconds to put them on or take them off. http://www.riskracing.com/pages/Palm_Protector_Page.html
I tried those and ended up not liking them. Cut my circulation off some and rubbed me in other areas I was not having issue with. I ended up with pillow top grips that I liked. Lots of solutions.
I've gone through a few sets of the pillow tops and liked those pretty well but was looking for something a little larger and read somewhere about the Pro Grip 714. They are really great grips, very soft and super tacky. Long lasting and inexpensive too. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/71/982/19546/ITEM/Pro-Grip-714-Dual-Sport-MX-Grips.aspx They are classified as dual sport but work great for strictly dirt. Plus they look great in red! Yup, lots of solutions.
