"We're redefining the idea of Harley riders and how they ride," said Brook Smith, head of US Public Relations for Harley-Davidson. "We're elevating riders across the country, featuring real Harley-Davidson riders." The words above are Harleys' new sales pitch for selling bikes ... I guess a sales pitch might have worked on me when I was way2x younger, maybe not ... Today, I read that and wonder ... -- Here's the article... It was a little strange, like watching Pulp Fiction the first time .. http://rideapart.com/articles/harle...-campaign-featuring-vintage-bikes-real-riders
I'd be really interested in a cruiser motorcycle if the Indian motorcycle company would offer a clone of there 1930's inline four cylinder. My only health problem is my golf ball sized kidney stone with the vibration. I bleed if I'm active. I'm going to ride again with a kidney belt and my back brace. But the vibration of a cruiser has me worried. I see everything shaking and vibrating on a Harley at a red lite. My goal is to ride again. Maybe another Suzuki 1250 bandit? I liked my 99 bandit. At 150mph a full glass of water on my bandits gas tank wouldn't spill a drop. No vibration at an idle or at 150mph. There so smooth at 150mph I wouldn't know I was going that fast except for the cars coming at me going in the same direction.
The motor on my Electra Glide is rubber mounted. Just a tingle through the grips and floor boards.Mine is 10 years old now and the new ones are much smoother.
A little, my neighbor and his son are out there all the time. I keep telling the boy for being 10/11 and knowing as much as he does, he could be the next Orlando Wilson. They literally have a wall of their garage dedicated to bass lures.
I wish I lived near that trophy large mouth bass lake I'd be camped out there fishing 24/7. The new world record is worth over a million dollars. Mustard hooks offers $$. The rod, the reel and fishing line manufacturers will give us something too. I'm trying to break the state record here it's 14lbs. I'm up to 10lbs.
Im a little confused by it all, they are acknowledging their anchor with wheels image but are pushing custom bikes in the ad. As a person who isnt a fan of the brand I would want to see something from the factory that isnt the same stuff and I know they have new models available that are slightly less crap.
Crap. Your opinion and your entitled. I have riden the same Harley since 1988 an 87 FXLR with no issues. I rather like it. Not my opinion, my experiance. Dave
Well, all the cool kids are riding old Honda CBs, Triumphs, and other late 60s to late 70s bobber looking bikes with metal flake open face helmets, skinny jeans, beards, and black frame glasses even though they can see just fine. So high tech just isn't hip anymore. The rest are riding adventure bikes with the big aluminum bags on them and matching jackets so they all look the same. It's still nice to see a while group Harleys rolling down the highway now and again. I tend to ride my crap, ooops I mean Electra Glide Ultra Classic alone or at most with one or two other bikes. Don't care what they are either.
Luv American Iron....the older...the better. Back to the basics of riding. Rubber mounted bars & floorboards on my Panhead. Just enough vibration to feel what the motor is doing. Pounding the pavement baby.
Harleys are for a different kind of riding. There's sport bikes, dual sports, dirt bikes, touring bikes of various types and cruiser (and others). Just like there are fast cars, small cars, big cars, trucks and all sorts of four wheeled vehicles. I don't have the slightest problem with my Road King weighing 760lbs (except if I have to pick it up). It's torque gets it going pretty quickly and I can get to illegal speeds quick enough. I'm not going to go toe to toe with my Ducati Multistrada or anything, but the point is, it's fast enough. It's very comfortable. Even someone with stumps for legs like me can swing a leg over a Harley. My 2007 Harley Road King is without hesitation THE MOST RELIABLE BIKE I've ever owned. Hands down. Always starts. Only a couple very minor issues. More reliable than my older and newer Beemers even. It's great for commuting. So is my Multistrada, but it's easier to balance the Harley in slow traffic in tight quarters (we can lane share here in CA). The Multi can squirt to freedom like nothing else, though. Yeah, it has a limited lean angle. It's a cruiser, not a sport bike. You don't expect a Sentra to drive like a 380Z do you? If you want to drag knee, choose the right tool for the job. I wouldn't make my Harley my only street bike, but it makes a good 2nd bike. It's a bike for a different mood, a more casual mood. The feel of the low RPM twin is great therapy. And I don't mean vibration. It does that at stop lights, but before you're up to 1800 or so, it smooths right out due to the rubber motor mounts on the FLH class bikes (The Road King is the FLHR). If it has two wheels, you can have fun on it. You just need to have an open mind and be willing to ride the bike for what it was designed to do. People that get disappointed with Harleys typically make the mistake of trying to make them a sport bike. They can't adapt to something new.
dang that thing is jamming smooth to 150+ mph (240 Kph) View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB5mG0OoTpo
wont be very smooth when someone decides to change lanes and he comes outta nowhere and gets splattered all over the road
I had a '98 883 sportster ... It was a loud, heavy, sort of clunky, street bike with a big seat. About exactly what I wanted and expected. I did not need a sales-pitch (as above) to buy a Harley ... Never had any issues with it and only sold it because I was leaving ... It would go 100MPH if I bent down low under the bars and had a tail wind ... Get caught going that fast in WA and you will have to explain why in city hall most likely. -- That top speed video sent tremors down my back as he was riding out of that lot and up the on-ramp, headed for the highway, revving that jet sounding engine, slightly ... It was like I was riding with my friends on my 995 Daytona again and we all knew we gonna do a little racing and traveling at over 100mph ... ~Never again for me I certainly hope. I'll stick with my simple dirt-bike riding mistakes made in the lower double-digit MPH range ... I'm no PRO same as all the other cars drivers on most public roads.
I used to ride like that. Two weeks on life support, 2.5 months in the hospital, too many broken bones to count (really...I don't know), missed 6 months of work, & a few hundred thousand Hospital/Dr. bill cured me. Oh yeah....lots of pain too.
