I've got an 08 TE 450 - it's got a power-up kit and that's about it for bling. I've been ripping around on this thing for a couple of weeks and it's been tougher and tougher to get it started. One week in the shop later, the diagnosis...partial clog of fuel filter. UGH....The day I get it backm, I tried for 45 minutes to get it started...no love

on accident, I cracked the throttle 1/16th...and kapow...starts first kick  I repeated this 5 times with excellent results. I know it shouldn't be like this.

anyone else have this? is it a TPS problem??? WTF???

This is a fuel injected bike right? Also, I thought the '08 TE's were E-start so why are you kicking? If it was a carbed bike it sounds like your pilot jet would be partially clogged or too small. I think the '08 is EFI so it's probably a TPS or EFI issue assuming your fuel flow is normal.

    Just checked the '08 specs...

Why the heck are you kicking a bike with E-start???

all my mates on 450's and 510's use the deco lwver to help spin them over.. i think the starting system on these huskys is shocking to be honest...still crappy after 5 yrs ? thata not development... thats just poor stds..if mine is even near tdc it wont go over.. i need to use the decel once its hot that is.. when cold, no issues at all..but thats the reason... colder means a bit looser..

Check you valves for the proper clearence. That could cause hard starting.

interesting, i have had many E-start huskys and was always impressed how heard and long they would turn over. never used the decomp. never kicked my 04 TE450 over several thousands of miles. Added an E-start to my TC250 with 300 kit, no issues. My 08 TXC450 with JD jetting you could hardly get your finger off the red button quick enough. :excuseme:

The quest for easy starts continues....

Valve clearances checked and verified good.

The guys at GP Cycles here in San Diego were using the Decomp lever in conjunction with the start button...pull the decomp in, push the button and then release the lever...works pretty good...funny, but I'm so used to kicking 4 strokes...it's easier to start it with the kicker...usually one good kick (with the throttle cracked 1/16th).

I believe GP used iBeat to get it where it is now...it rips once it's going...was doing power wheelies in third gear...no complaints there.

weird ! dont get me wrong, i use the deco lever as it aides the battery when doing stop starts.. but all my mates riding huskys do it.. 05/08/09 bikes ! :excuseme: i dont kick my te510 now as i replaced the voltage reg as that was stuffed but still likes a bit of assistance when hot.. could possibly be jetting as the dealer said it had been jetted and uncorked/exhaust modded so possibly not doen right as i did suspect lean fueling as it got hot sometimes but there are so many conflicting stories.. might get it looked at soon for jetting !
