Header Wrap?

Burned a set of pants on the header right where it goes into the silencer. Im considering wrapping the header and realize i wont get any improvement in performance, but tired of burning pats as it gets so hot. Any other suggestions, or talk me out of it? 2011 TE449. Thanks

I wrapped mine recently and I like it. Less of a leg-cooker, but still a bit hot. I used cheap ass Chinese "black" fiberglass kit and it faded out blotchy white immediately, but I don't care. So, I'd get the white kind if I were doing it again, or maybe Kevlar but that's a lot more $ obviously.

I know it's not the same, but I took a piece of aluminum plate I had laying around and massaged it with a hammer to fit like the original paper thin guard. Drilled some holes in it. I wrapped the pipe just before enters the silencer, under the guard. After melting one pair of riding pants, I figured I had to come up with something. Damn pants are expensive!

I have the guards and crap on my 510 and still wreck my pants. I just ordered some wrap to give it a try. Just going to wrap from the side guard back to the can entry.

bad thing of the wrap, is that mud accumulates in between the steel and the wrap and tends to create oxidization on the material..

got a roll from Amazon that shows up today. Will see how it goes and if it sucks, ill take it off.

Wrap it, it is great- bike quieter, less burns, a tinge of protection. I wrapped my 04, I recent wrapped my 15 ktm 300- if you are on a wet ride, just let it run to dry out when you get home, and dry.

Don't wash the bike an put it away wet.

It will destroy the pipe underneath.

Always run engine or go for a dry ride after washing to steam off the water from the fiber wrap.

If there's a nearby Napa or Lordco around you can find ''1'' x 15ft rolls for cheap. The Titanium colored one blends nicely on the husky headers. Make sure to wrap it dry first to how you want it and then cut it to length afterwards. Once it's cut, soak it in water for a few minutes and then wrap it firmly with a dash of safety wire to hold it in place.

Just curious. What's with soaking it in water? I've never done that in all these years. I bought some from jegs years ago and it still looks new.

Prevents the fibre glass from strands splitting when you have to fiddle with it, and also a tighter grip.

Was about to ask, I've been wrapping my header for a year now, its made my header fairly mangy but I can always sort that out later,

But yeah soaking it in water prevents one from going to bed that night itchy as all hell? The last few times I've worn gloves and still nothing, gets all in my clothes and you can feel it for days afterwards.

A little late but... I'd recommend staying away from DEI Titanium header wrap, it tears too easy.

On my 510 the wrap didnt work. First the factory guard ripped it so i took the guard off. Then with nothing it just got shredded from my boots. I am now aluminum taping my boots and getting "inside the boot" pants. This 4 inches of pipe is my only complaint of the whole bike. My wifes happy with 4 though.....har har har.

LOL. But for enduro is always recommended to use inside the boot pants(to avoid any textile getting trapped on bike's parts like sprocket) and boots with the inner part in leather. That way it wont melt with the pipe's heat.

Ya for sure. Used to race motocross and thats what i got, well had. Big burn hole in them now. Getting the Yoga pants next!
